Hi all

Looking to buy a place within walking distance from bars restaurants shops etc. There are so many places so don't know where to begin. Going out in Feb and March to start our search and picked places to view within our budget but until we go we won't know. Everywhere says torrevieja but it won't be central I'm sure. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks

Sandra

Hello Sandy, see this map of bus routes:

http://www.turismodetorrevieja.com/add/archivos/Bus.pdf

It´s important to look at properties in the winter but don´t make any final decisions until you´ve seen it in high summer in school holidays, especially in August when the Spanish come to the coast, often for the whole month, making it extremely busy.
Is it going to be just for holidays or permanent? Heating will be very important if you intend staying in the winter months as properties are not built to keep warm and nights get cold from October to April. In a small apartment hot/cold air conditioning should suffice and make sure there is heating in the bathroom/ice box.
If you are planning to rent it out for extra income, take a look at the excellent article about Tourist Licences from Davebev1.

Allocated parking is essential in the summer months when everybody drives down to the coast and the N332 is at a standstill. Think about how you will get to and from the airport if you don´t have a car.

Socialising continues well in to the early hours in the summer although not in the same league as Benidorm.

Other posters have mentioned damp and mould forming when apartments are closed up for long periods due to the humidity and flooding is an issue. Google Torrevieja flooding. It´s not just Torrevieja though, the more built up the area is, the less chance the water has to escape. It is a very dry area but the rain, when it does arrive, is horrendous.
Estate Agents are not your friends, however charming and helpful they appear. They are salespeople, simple as, and they work for the seller, not you, and are paid very highly. NEVER use their recommended Abogado. It is a buyer´s market with hundreds and hundreds of all types of property always on the market, often for a very long time. Still more being built everywhere so don´t succumb to pressure. Be wary of buying off plan or on an unfinished urbanisation which may well be permanently unfinished! I smell a crash coming (my opinion only, but I cannot see how this can be sustained). On Kyero, there are currently 4049 apartments, 1549 villas and 601 townhouses for sale in Torrevieja.
As long as you are not buying as an investment, this is a beautiful place to live or holiday if you get it right.
All the best and I hope you find your dream place in the sun.

Without a car I would say Torrevieja also.

Direct connection from the airport, shops, bars and restaurants on your doorstep

Quite diverse range of properties.

Personally I would wait 3 months see if a Brexit deal can be had. If not the  £ will fall hard and any property you buy will cost you a lot more.

Thank you for your advice.  I am a little concerned about Brexit but my husband hasn't looked in it and automatically assumes everything will be fine.  Im the worrier !!

Bryan are you sure you are qualified to help Sandy?  I thought you had said only Cheryl and Jim should be listened to as they were the only ones with any sense around here?

😀

Hi there, much as I am flattered, I speak as a layman and much of the information I post about is gleaned from reading other posts or my own experience, hoping that others don´t make some of the mistakes I did. Fortunately, there are other people with a whole range of detailed knowledge that I lack who are more deserving of that accolade. I´m just Jo Public, but thank you anyway.

And a very good thought  too!

Now my brain is working overtime 😂😂 where would you suggest to have a mixture of both? I do want the Spanish feel but with English people to so I have the best of both worlds so to speak😁

Thanks so much for your very good advice 🤗

Hi Sandy

Given what you've said you idealy need a location with good bus services from the airport and then a good local bus service in around the vicinity. In that scenario Torrevieja does appear to tick all the boxes, and as such there are plenty of options within the town, but also within the urbanisations close by.

Personally, I love San Luis/La Siesta/El Chaperal and the surrounding lakes, local supermarkets, buses and many other facilities, . Yes, there are many Brits, but equally as many Scandanavians, German, Belgium and of course Spanish residents- there a very few areas as cosmopolitan in that respect. Of course others will prefer different locations of equal and better quality- but it's all down to taste, affordability and of course accessibilty.

I think most of us were in the same position when we first came out to look at property, so it's best you go with an open mind and spend a good few days looking at properties and the surrounding locations,, going walks around the neigbourhoods and just getting a sense of the places.  You'll kniw when you've found your spot.

Good luck

Wilbur
