Cheapest is air con. Most expensive is calor gas fires or oil fired rads. Big issue is if you have a 3.3kw tariff

If so to heat your home with electric heaters will trip out your supply. We went to our home in Villamartin for new year. House was freezing,  never again. Even with inverter air con.  Close up early December back end of Feb.

Nicola's quite correct.

We use a log fire as our main source of heating (not a pellet burner - expensive, low heat output, can be prone to faults), backed up by aircon, principally in the bedroom.

We rarely use the portable gas heater - for every litre of gas it burns, it produces a litre of water, and the carbon dioxide build-up in un-ventilated spaces can cause headaches. And if it's not burning properly, it can produce toxic carbon monoxide.

Many thanks for your message.  Unfortunately we have no means of having a chimney that i can see, which is a shame as i would have definitely gone for wood burner.  Bit of a dilemma really, i so wanted to spend the winter months out there.  was wondering if we replaced windows with double glazed panes would that help?

Anyway, looks like i will be wearing more to bed than in the UK lol

Best regards

Jules

As with Nicola I cannot stress enough how cold houses get in the Winter. We had two air cons heating and an oil filled rad. Over the new year and it was barely tolerable. Hence why won't go that time of year again. The windows may add some value but the single skin of brickwork is what makes the house cold.

If you don't think ahead and have a clear plan it will be a miserable few mths due to the cold

Yes indeed Nichola, just thought if you can successfully heat a house in the UK it should have been easier over there.  Never mind, if its warm during the day i think i will still feel better.... even if its the artic at night lol

Shame though, could have been perfect.....

Many thanks for your reply, and who knows, might even bump into you sometime...

Hi julesinuk, I have a place in La Marina, and only come over a couple of times a year, (Christmas and Easter) as well as the aircon heating, I installed 450 watt heating panels ( about 45 euros each on average from Leroy Merlin)  once installed, I found that a short burst of the aircon heating in conjunction with the panels it kept my place comfortably warm over the Christmas New Year period, and not expensive to run.  I am out this Christmas, and I am having my windows replace with double glazed units.  As a certain well known supermarket says " every little helps".

Many thanks for your suggestion mal.  I shall take on board your experience, and find out the costs of replacing the windows.  Also find out the running costs of the panels.

Kind regards Jules

Jules, I am replacing nine window panels and the kitchen door glass at a cost of 790.20 euros. Depends on how many windows you have, it should give you a rough idea of cost. Getting work done by Brinas at San Fulgencio.
