Hello everyone,

I need to see someone about eye cataracts. I live in the Torrevieja region, are there any clinics in the area that specialize in the treatment of cataracts? If anyone could advise me as to the best way forward I would be more than grateful.

I will keep my eye ( no pun intended) on any replies as during a recent eye test I have been told I have the start of cataracts 😔

The answer to your question depends on your status in Spain.

Do you have Private Health Insurance which would cover the treatment, if so you are best to contact your PHI Provider for help in directing you to the right Doctor / Clinic / Hospital.

Are you registered with the Spanish Healthcare system, if so go to your nearest Clinica Medica and get an appointment.

If you are a Non-Resident in Spain you might, in an emergency, get treatment using your EHIC Card.

If you are registered with the Spanish Health System then you should go to see your doctor at your local health centre as he will need to refer you to the local clinic (ambulatorio).

You need to get an eye test before you go to the doctor. Once optician has detected cataracts you will be advised to see your doctor. You won't get any paperwork from the optician, you just tell your doctor what you've been told, he'll take care of the rest. This is for Public Health. You'll have to wait around 6 months but they do get cancellations.

For private follow your companies guidelines.

You can go to Quiron hospital and pay.

Good luck

The Quiron Hospital is just off the N332 - head north from Torrevieja and there is a sign by the side of the road showing the turn off.
