Let me start by admitting that I had recommended them in previous posts, should never have done it... last rental in the past two weeks was a nightmare. Started with a very unpleasant desk agent clearly unhappy about me not taking out their insurance, then refusing credit card as a deposit backup ( despite website clearly stating this MUST be taken on a credit card) because initial booking payment was done on a debit card and same should be used... been hiring cars for 30 years but first time this has happened to me... on pointing out that debit card would have meant money being actually taken out of account she said no, we'll only block it... my mistake, late evening, delayed flight, I should have been more aware but went along. Needless to say my account was debited next day to the tune of 1036£. Went back to airport to protest only to be met by an even more unpleasant attitude... Returned car, no damages, full tank, all signed off by receiving agent... refund is £ 967....this leaves me short of £ 68.00. Checked online account, no joy, there is no human being to talk to over the phone, you can only e mail and hope... they may have good feedback and I admit having given some in the past but just be aware, things can go wrong and it's when they do that you see the differences between companies!

I also recommended them after many hassle free rentals :(

Was this at the airport desk Claudio?

Yes it was at the airport desk, as much as the employee during the previous rental was friendly and the process smooth as much as the last one was a grumpy sod and everything turned into a blunder. Putting 2 and 2 together I could have rented from one of the major names with the money it cost me in the end....not to mention that at least the majors usually have phone lines where you can actually speak to a human being rather than listening to pre recorded messages that invariably send you back to using email for communicating.

I have just used goldcar at alicante airport all was fine till I had a spanish driver run into back of me gave them all insurance details from other driver. Then they deducted over €600 of my credit card When I asked aren't they going to claim of other driver they told yes and that they took the money of me because it can take so long with spanish insurance. Then they told me to claim my excess off my UK excess insurance. So what's happening to the money when they get it. They are all rip off merchants and bent.

Did you book direct or through a third party on a site like sky scanner

Dhp31 in my opinion they will try to take money from both of you, I have come to the conclusion that those companies are all a bunch of money grabbers as long as they can get away with it. I'll go back to rent from major companies only, it seems to cost more upfront but when you sum all the "extras" of the other lots the difference is not as high.

I like you have found them fine so far but I never book direct they wouldn't be able to pull that trick if you booked through a third party as no card is used with them

Woofer, you are absolutely correct, first rental I used a third party and all went smooth, this time they weren't showing on the one I normally use ( Rentalcars.com) so went direct. I should have become suspicious when desk employee refused my credit card and insisted on using same debit card used for initial payment... she and her colleagues later insisted that it must be same card despite this not being mentioned anywhere in their website T&Cs, on the contrary it states that deposit is mandatory on a CREDIT card only.

I have just checked with bank for security and they confirm not having taken any commission or exchange rate on it, they only credited what Centauro sent them. Needless to say no reply from Centauro's customer service so far.

I won't use them again even through third parties, a company resorting to this sort of tricks to make money is not worth trusting. Sure they conned me out of £68 but am sure the negative advertising I'm leaving around all possible websites is going to make them lose more than that.

To Dhp31, I too hired recently from Goldcar having used them lots previously without bother. However, as they were taking ages to check vehicles on return and queues waiting, I took my document into office to complain after 10mins of waiting and the guy there looked at contract and fuel receipt and told us everthing ok,so just go, it would be dealt with automatically. We did cos there'd been no damage and I still had my contract and pre existing damage sheet for proof. Next day they charged 35€ to my credit card with "failure to return contract document". Despite several emails with no replies, I rang them and was told document must be left with them , hence charge, which btw is not specified in their terms and conditions. I will never leave "my proof of damages or my copy of contract" and I shouldn,t have to, so I think this is yet another new scam, as I have never in 15yrs left my document behind. I have already posted this experience to warn people, also I have had a similar experience to yourself where another driver caused me damage and quickly drove off. I was charged 1250€ on my card when we returned the car to Record for the damage(overpriced by 4x real cost of repair) but fortunately had excess insurance to claim from. I can't recommend the Company high enough "icarhire"insurance as they made claiming so easy and paid full amount into my bank in 8 days. Why people risk driving without taking their yearly £39 policy which covers all excess charges or even worse paying a huge charge by the carhire Company is beyond me.Carhire Companies are always looking to raise extra money, the risk isnt worth taking. Btw if you have another driver on the carhire(ie. insured person plus another) both are covered.
