As a single woman in her early 60's, I've had enough of working and cold dark winters. I holidayed in Torrievieja about 15 years ago and want to return to see if it's changed much,and whether it's an option for me to retire there. I was planning to maybe rent for 3 months and see how it feels. I'm also,at this stage, wondering what the costs would be? Can anyone help please?

It’s changed. Loads of development but English spoken everywhere
I live an hour inland and in a cave house having looked at many homes near the coast However for easy integration and loads of potential friends urbanisations are better. My tip is visit at different times of the year and rent first.
I have taken holidays here in my home for 12 years and now am here to live. Down at the coast hospitals are a plenty and this website has lots of information. Enjoy looking around There are so many towns to consider Alison
Hello Rosie, to retire here, you will have to become a resident and to do this you need to prove you will not become a burden on the state. At the moment, as an EU resident, the bar is set lower than for an non-EU immigrant. After Brexit, who knows, but if you can qualify now, financially, as if you were from outside the EU, then you will not have a problem. I believe, off the top of my head, annual income for non EU is @ €21,000.

Thank you all for your responses..all helpful stuff. I am planning to pop over for a few days in the next couple of weeks,so should get a feel for things.There is still a lot of research to do, but i'm feeling positive at the moment!.Thanks again people...

You wont regret moving to any of the Torrevieja areas.....the Torretas, San Luis, La Siesta. they are all near good areas and the life style is relaxing and reasonable and the weather is great normally! We have been here almost 20 years and still love it. Lots of very reasonable properties in lots of estate agents and also in the free local papers. Clubs to join and great activities to enjoy.....very different from the UK. The atmosphere is great and so little to moan about!
You won't regret it. Many people who have moved back to the UK have wished they hadn't !!

This is all recent really, but even if it continues and places flood, it dries out and returns to normal lovely weather very quickly. Don't know whether it is area or streets that are flooded....this year we couldn't get to the garden gate.....but the next day it was lovely and dry. I think that is a small price to pay for the cold and miserable weather in the UK. That is the very reason we moved!!
