I had a missed Correos delivery and when I collected the small package from Correos office at Av Desiderio Rodriguez, 37, Torrevieja I was charged €31.20.

Has anyone else had this experience?

I've collected packages from this office earlier in the year, since Brexit, and never been charged.

Any info gratefully received.

If you have a number of parcels delivered over a year, it might be worth paying for a post box, we have one at the Post Shop in Villamartin, not only does our mail get delivered there but any items ordered online can be sent there and collected at our leisure the cost is €75 per year, no limit on the number of parcels.

yes I have had the same thing. was the parcel from the UK? If it was it will be for import duties and associated costs from Correos for their handling fee.

Yes, from UK. Has this just started, do you know?

My understanding is (and from personal experience):

From the 1st Jan 2021 all parcels originating from the UK (not sure about NI) require a customs declaration label on them declaring contents and value.

Fees are incurred based upon that information plus where appropriate, this will also include a handling charge. These costs are collected from you by the delivering agency before they will release the package to you. If you have received packages since the 1st Jan and not had a problem either the value of the package or its contents could well have been exempt from these charges (i.e. below the value threshold) or you have been lucky and it has slipped through the net.

Other members might be able to add to this or indeed correct me if I am wrong.

Hope this gives you some clarification.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi,

As per my previous comment reference the UK, any parcels that originate from outside of the EU will be subject to the same conditions.

They will require a customs declaration label on them declaring contents and value.

Fees (IVA (VAT) and Duty - where applicable) will be incurred based upon that information plus where appropriate, there will also be a handling charge. These costs are collected from you by the delivering agency before they will release the package to you. If you receive packages and have not had a problem either the value of the package or its contents could well have been exempt from these charges (i.e. below the value threshold) or you have been lucky and it has slipped through the net.

I have attached a link to further information:

https://spainbox.com/mailboxes/duty-and-taxes-to-import-to-spain-from-outside-european-union#:~:text=The%20standard%20VAT%20rate%20for,in%20addition%20to%20import%20tariffs%20.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bob
