If indeed you are worried about the cost of living, I would be more worried abut the money you can earn or what you have for sup

If you can live comfortably in Ireland I am sure you will live comfortably in Spain as previously said it depends on the individuals I am sure there are couples who live happily on 15000€/year others less & those who would struggle it depends on the individuals & what your hobbies & social life is

The Republic of Ireland is more expensive to live in than Spain do you are off to a good start. Remember, you can hang your washing out to dry all year around instead of using your tumble drier. Heat will be be necessary from 4.30 pm onwards instead of on and off all day long at home. Alcohol is far, far cheaper as us dining out. We pay our waiting staff more at home than the Spanish do and I imagine the cost if rent will also be greater hence the reason we pay through the nose for eating out. In Spain, as you probably know, there is a menu del dia available in most restaurants daily. I notice that many people eat their main meal at lunchtime and probably have something light for their evening meal. Shopping fir food has become more expensive but by going to the markets, you can buy good vegetables quite reasonably. Car insurance isn’t too bad as you insure the car not the drivers. Road tax is about €21 annually do very cheap.
Depending on the type of property you buy, whether it’s in an urbanisation it nor will dictate the annual cost of suma etc., you don’t need half the clothes you have at home as the weather is never that different...half of the year, a t-shirt will suffice and the other half, a sweater over the T-shirt!
For goodness sake, don’t jump into doing things with your house until you have been in Spain for a while. Good workmen are available but most of them know how to charge. As in Rep of Ireland, water is charged ( unlike the north of Ireland where it is included in the rates ). You will know not to waste any of it. Electric.. you can choose to go on a cheaper tariff and learn to do your washing at night to save money ( my husband despairs of me) After a while, you will learn the ways of the residents in Spain.
Sell your car at home and buy a new one when you arrive. All being well, it will last you for YEARS. There is no KEEPING UP WITH THE JONEs’S in Spain which is wonderful!
I hope you enjoy your new life in a warmer climate. The only advice I will offer is to arrange to go back home for the months of July and August. The heat is overpowering. A little spanish lady described it to me as TORTUROUS. Never a truer word spoken.
We Irish enjoy the sun but find the intense heat simply too much.
Do you plan to sell up and move over it will you keep a bolt home in Ireland?

The cost of living here in Spain has increased quite dramatically over the last fe2 years as the value of the pound sterling has plummeted against the euro.

Yes, the good old pound has lost it’s strength over the past while and hopefully will improve once Brexit is sorted.
Whenantom1 lives in the Republic of Ireland and they also use the Euro there for everyday life so it will be the same when coming to live in Spain.
Yes, I also have noticed that it costs more when paying in Spain ....sometimes almost the same as the payment with sterling.

That's not the cost of living in Spain - that's relevant if you (or others) who have their money/pensions coming over from the UK in pounds. Cost of living for those individuals would be affected by currency exchange.
For someone coming over already dealing in Euros - or for anyone else living or working/earning here the UK currency is not related to the cost of living.
That aside - it's cheaper here than in the UK & Eire. Perhaps not electricity, though fuel still a little less & as others have said eating out, drink etc. Sunshine and clean air is free ;-)
For those waiting to see what will happen should a Brexit deal be put in place - we'll see a small but noticeable - positive gain in sterling, but won't be that big, as LET GET THIS DONE - BREXIT. Is not done at all, should a deal be put in place, it is only the start of years of protracted negotiations, so faith in the stability of the UK economy, we will not see any time soon.Posted: Fri Oct 25, 2019 4:15pm

Any money originating in pounds sterling is affected by the exchange rate and, therefore, affects the cost of living in Spain. Many people rely on pensions, bank interest, investments etc all relying on a favourable exchange rate to give them a quality if life. For people relocating from the ?Republic of Ireland things are slightly different as no exchange rate.
