Yes its awful, and then there was the incident where that couple had their fingers cut off one by one with secateurs.Although you just have to be careful and get on with life

How interesting. A link would certainly help.

Hi,

My husband and myself have an apartment in Playa del Cura, Torrevieja.  I left my bag behind in an restaurant and pub.  They had it there for me the next day (nothing taken).  My husband left his wallet on a table in Los Locos. Returned to Restaurant to have returned with nothing taken.  Wanted to give the waiter money but he refused it.  Yes, we were very lucky.  Find the Spanish a treasure to deal with.

You have good and bad everywhere.  We live in Dublin.  There is crime everywhere.  You need to keep aware no matter where you go.

We love Torrevieja as do our children and friends.  You will always get good and bad areas no matter where you go- unfortunately it is a part of life.

Good luck with your search.

Deirdre

I don't mean Dublin is crime riddled - after reading my post lol. I mean everywhere in the world there is crime unfortunately.

DeaninSpain, was that so they couldn't point the finger at them?

It's a common fallacy that crops up now and then that these gassings take place to rob people whilst they are in their beds....

I've never actually read or heard anything about anyone getting robbed in this way.

I looked up the crime rates recently for the Costa Blanca and Torrevieja and Benidorm were the top two. Here in Benidorm the crimes that add up are mainly theft from tourist areas including pickpockets and handbag/phone theft. Prostitution and the "Pea men" are very much a problem too.

More problems are starting to rise with squatters entering vacant property and holiday homes. Its extremely difficult to evict squatters who have families and this is putting some buyers off. That problem would be worth looking into further.....

This actually did happen to a work colleague of mine, albeit not in Spain, but in his holiday home in Turkey, so it is an actuality.

Why do you expect it to be any different than any other country? 🤔

Good and bad in different areas

Try somewhere else 👍

Hysterical poppycock..had a downstairs property for 20 years in el chaparral pre and post brexit occupied/ unoccupied ..never had one issue at all..you hear of the odd break in ..gassing people is simply nonsense ...anyway in England they break in ..attack you ..hurt you and do other unspeakable acts ..that simply is unheard of here ...bonkers nonsense
