Well I am sorry but I do have to disagree. This has not been my experience at all. I bought an MP3 player from Tien 21 which could not be made to function. This was exchanged with absolutely no quibble. We also bought all our kitchen appliances from one local firm; one of them developed a fault approximately 20 months into service. The central service agents for the manufacturers were notified, made appointment, came , inspected and immediately authorised the complete replacement with a brand new product; this replacement item unfortunately had a electrical manufacturing defect which could not be seen. When it failed, they returned, checked the item, dismantled it on site and completed a thoroughly professional repair.
We also had a problem with the installation of our kitchen worktops and sinks, due to an assumption on my part and a different assumption upon that of the supplier/installer. When our disappointment was made clear to the owner of the company, he immediately had the items removed, remade/fitted and reinstalled at his own expense. We offered to pay 50% of the cost of this exercise as the misunderstanding was mutual, and we did not feel it fair to expect a small business to carry all the cost of that which we would have had to pay had the original misunderstanding not occurred; this was accepted, we all remained on friendly terms and a fair solution was achieved.
Yes, there may be problems, but that is true anywhere. Any serious misbehaviour on the part of a supplier can always be reported via the consumer protection system, the name of which escapes me, but the threat of which usually works wonders I understand. We have never needed to use it.
