Hi my licence runs out in April. How soon should I apply for renewal and the tests needed? Thanks.
You can renew the license up to 3 months before it expires.
However, if you use a testing centre that does the renewal for you, they will issue a temporary license (only valid in Spain) for 3 months until your new one arrives. My wife actually did hers the day before it expired after forgetting but was then issued the temporary one to cover her.
You can't, of course, drive with an expired license hence the paper one.
If you renew early, the expiration date will go from when your old one was valid not from the date of renewal.

Hi thanks. When should I book the test/eye test? I went to La Siesta health centre when I exchanged my UK licence for a Spanish one. I was told I might be able to go to Cabo Roig, above the pharmacy near Consum.

There are plenty of psicometrico centres that do the tests and arrange the renewal of the driving license, Clinica La Siesta is one that does it all for you. Half a dozen in central Torrevieja plus La Siesta and others. 2 in Rojales, one in Catral and they all do the exchange included in the medical exam. Quite a few in Orihuela Costa and Playa Flamenca as well. Google psicometrico and see which ones are near you.

Just select Alicante as the province and hit Enter.I've got the miDGT app on my mobile and, the last time I did the test, the app showed my license had been renewed by the time I got back to my car.

Not a good experience at the Siesta one, Paid the 40E (Down the drain) and went through their system, then they wanted some unnecessary certificate that I found was impossible to obtain after attempts in the public and private medical sector. Went where I had always gone 40E again, They had full medical history on the system I was told after enquiring. No Probs but as always only a 3yr renewal.
