The Spanish are not snobby about cars either, unlike in UK you're not instantly judged by how much you owe the bank for what you drive!

Take a look in the UK you don’t see rusty cars there either any more manufacturers actually paint all of the car now. Used cars in the UK are cheaper because more people buy new due to easy options to buy like PCP and PCH, couple that with higher income, therefore there are more used cars available, and also there is still a company car culture in the UK.

From my guide to buying a car:

1). Cars in Spain do not deteriorate physically as quickly as they do in the UK, and there are a lot of old cars on the roads in excellent condition. That means that they hold their value a lot longer; certainly for their first five years at least.

2). Another reason is that there isn't the fleet market here as there is in the UK. That fleet market dumps a great number of cars into the second-hand market, usually through auctions, often when the cars are one year old or have 10,000 miles on the clock. That large volume of fleet sales effectively depresses the market prices.

3). And the third reason is that buying a second hand car here costs money. If you buy a reasonably new car, then the costs involved in paying the transfer tax, paying for it to be registered in your name and, often, paying someone else to handle the procedures for you, can amount to several hundred euros.

There aren’t the rot problems with cars in the UK anymore, surely if cars in Spain lasted longer there would be more of them and prices would be lower not higher.

The UK is just more of a throw away society, the population is 20 million higher than Spain, higher average income and it’s easy to lease or buy a new car on finance. Lower demand for used equals lower prices

Spain ignores the EU directive on free movement of goods and services by heaping huge ´registration´ costs on imported vehicles.   Thank God for Brexit!

I am just registering my classic car at a cost of 1,100 euros!  Total rip-off!  Costs zero in the UK.
