Hi all I am hoping to spend a big part of the winter In torrevieja this year. I have had a place there for a number of years but have never been in the winter months. I don't have any form of heating, are there any suggestions as the most efficient and cost affective way to keep just a couple of rooms cosy through the cooler months. Regards John Wheaton

I  spent  From January  till April  2024 in Torrevieja,   and  the form  of Heating  when required  was Air Conditioning,   I  had  it  on for  Approx  2  hours  most nights

My  highest Electricity bill for  months  of January   was 61  euros,  to  include  lighting  cooking   water  heater and other Domestic  appliances,   a  2  bed  Apartment,

To  get a  new Air conditioning  unit  fitted   between  550  and 650  depending  on location  of  Air conditioning  Motor  and  length  of  Copper  piping to  Supply   unit  in Apartment

Hope  this helps  your query

If aircon is a problem with fitting (and those mentioned would be rather noisy at that price) then portable gas fires are an option as gas bottles here are very cheap compared to UK. You do need to ensure you have good ventilation and keep water filled bowls near them or you will get a lot of condensation.

Oil filled radiators are a cheaper option to run than electric bar heaters and do not, never not, use fan heaters or your leccy bill will go up hugely.

The Winter just gone, we very rarely used any heating as the weather was very mild. Just a gas fire to take the chill off quickly for a while but nothing after that. In other years we use a converter aircon unit as they are the most cost friendly items.

Like Sligogent we find using the heating feature of split a/c units a economic option. Many have timers which you can set to turn on/off at set times. We have Mitsubushi units which are relatively quiet when cooling or heating.

January/Feb temps can often get into single figures overnight so we find we need heating in the evening and early mornings, we're not as hardy as Marcliff!

Rgds,

Aitch.

I  have a Giatsu unit  fitted  and  I  watch a lot of  Football  during  winter  evenings,  and  if  unit  was   noisy it would not last very long,

On  packing  of  Unit it will  tell the noise levels,  I  don't  think I  would  be  alone  in  requiring  a low  noise level  unit

Best bet is A/C with heating. I fitted 1000s while I was working over in Spain. Everyone was happy with them. Instant heat and cooling / dehumidifier for the summer months . Comfortable all year round. Do not go for the cheapest makes though, Go for Fujitsu/ General. they are very quiet and low running costs and have timers very low fan speeds but use the automatic setting so it starts on high then drops to low, Plus the outdoor motor casing ( compressor ) case is made of strong plastic so does not rust like the others do.

Hi John

As others have said, aircon is great, especially if you have the 8-hour cheap rate electricity tariff. (You can then choose your 8 hours to coincide with when you're most likely to use the aircon). You could also get an electric heated throw to wear.

By far the cheapest option for a bedroom is an electric blanket. My missus and two cats swear by it!

Cheers

Steve
