Just arrived in Torrevieja 2 nights ago and have been eaten alive. Both my husband and I look like we have the plague. Any advice would be most welcome.

Agua colonia from mercadonna baby section.

We put into spray bottles and it works well for us.

Hi Mags

Please go to your pharmacy and they should have some soothing lotions to apply.

Here’s a lot of replies during this week which may contain preventions and cures.

In the house spray liberally all the rooms in the evening, all doors and windows shut.  Bedrooms just before you retire..  It will help somewhat.

Go and buy the electric plug-in insect repellent machines; they use a small screw in - replaceable -bottle of liquid. Switch them on in the bedroom and leave on all night.

Use them in your sitting room when watching TV in the evening.

We also have one of the scaled down electric blue light machines - like those used in catering establishments - which I keep on all the time I may be working in the kitchen; and as our house is open plan I leave it on all evening as it seems to work better when kitchen lights switched off.

I suffer extremely badly and the only answer which works consistently as far as I have discovered is out and out chemical warfare as above. I can hear the howls of outrage from those who disagree and of course, no more than anyone else, do I like the idea of chemicals. However, my mother has been here over 50 years and has used all these consistently and is still going strong at 93, so I don’t think there is much threat to humanity!!!!!

And I have large stocks of Anthisan as being the only relieving cream which I fid effective.

Hi, I was in Torrevieja most of this month.  I used Avon skin so soft and only got bit on the one day I forgot to put it on .  I believe it has citronella in which mosquitos hate.  Much nicer to use than deet.

This works if you can get over the initial slight burning sensation!
