My car's A/C stopped working this morning, I had it re-gassed 2 months ago at the Feu Vert place (Carrefour). It had been re-gassed 2 years before so I guess the tiny leak had become less tiny? So. seeing as A/C repairs are a bit of an open bottomed pit, I was wondering if anyone was super satisfied with a local Honest A/C Mechanic?

A not so cool M !

We have a Citroen car

Tried a couple of places, but you get what you pay for,so the Citroen Dealership is our go to.

Always get a guarantee.

A large number of garages and mobile mechanics that have jumped onto the a/c “repairs” bandwagon tend to offer a quick fix by simply regassing the system. This is not a repair!
A competent a/c engineer would/should identify the cause of why the refrigerant has managed to escape from the system, and then address it accordingly - and regass afterwards once the system has been pressure tested to confirm it is completely sealed with no leaks

There are other things which can stop an AC from working not just the gas. In fact if it quit suddenly then almost certainly it will not be the gas and more likely something like the electric clutch which drives the compressor from the auxiliary belt and which in many cases can be visually observed to be working or not.

Maybe too far away for you MM but I use JM Car Service in Los Dolses for maintenance and any repairs. They repaired my A/c unit 3 years ago on my 2012 Seat Altea, still working fine. They work on any make, the owner is Spanish but they have english speakers if necessary. Their details are online.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Have you actually looked "under the hood"? Your owners manual will tell/show you how to do it!

Could be a broken belt.

Also, have you checked the fuse in the fuse box? Again, see the owners manual to find it's location and how to open it,

Good luck...

OK thanks Guys, I checked some things like the clutch on the compressor being activated, the fan turning on etc, all OK when the A/C was turned on.

I had an S-type before and went through all the procedures, In the end I was left with 2 possible faults, The compressor or the vaporiser deep in the dashboard. luckily for me, the compresssor was found to be tired by a company in Allbox. Got a S/H one from the UK. No Indy garage here wanted to touch it. It took me nearly 3 days, and the jag (JTIS) manual for the 2.7D is wrong!!

That aside I went to Osca, checked the gas OK, Looked carefully at everything and we saw that the compressor clutch was rotating fine BUT the centre shaft was not! So it will probably be a new compressor.

Incidentally it is a Megane 3, 130 TCE. When I have had other probs with it I found that electrical diagrams and other manuals were not freely available. Shi%^ car.

They should reload the gas with a dye so that possible leaks can be located instead of just regassing. Leaks that take months before any loss in performance is noted don't generally show on pressure tests

I just spray washing liquid and h2o on the joints. You can also use it everywhere to determine if you have a leak.
