Just moved to Playa Flamenca, Torrevieja from Sweden, and wonder if the tape water is safe to drink?

If not, any good water filter recommended?

Also, I wonder if the water in Torrevieja is hard water or not?

Because I saw some white residues inside the water kettle after I boiled it to make coffee, which was quite scary.

How you guys boil water to make coffee then?

Serena

Although you could probably get away with drinking a glass or two i wouldn't advise it. I think the smell and taste would put most people off. It is full of chlorine plus who knows what else. I wouldn't drink tap water in the UK for the same reason let alone here.

If you want a decent water filter for drinking, i can recommend the free-standing 'Berkey' water filter. They are not cheap but i have found them to be amongst the best on the market for removing impurities. The filters last a long time and you can add extra filters for the removal of fluoride etc. Hope this helps.

As for coffee making and cooking, i would use bottled water until you get sorted out as it is cheap enough.

Hi

We have started drinking tap water to save on plastic bottles.  If you decant it and place in the freezer the chlorine taste goes and it is very pleasant, in fact in my opinion better than bottled water.  We have had no health issues at all.  Hope this helps.

Hi we bought one of the under sink water filters a year ago it cost €79 from Leyroys, my husband said it was easy to fit onto the pipes, we use this water to drink and for the kettle, the filter replacements are only around €5, we live here and the filter is still going strong they slow down when they are full of lime etc, I would highly recommend it, we never buy bottled water now we just fill a plastic container with a tap on and keep it in the fridge.  You can get a system for around €400 that filters all the water coming into the house which you can also drink and these help protect your washing machine, dishwasher etc Hope this helps.

I don't drink water so can't comment on its taste, but tap water is perfectly OK for tea and coffee. I've never noticed the smell of chlorine when I've been doing the washing up etc.

Regarding limescale in kettles, every week or so one of us puts some lemon juice in the kettle, and that clears it easily. Hard water doesn't bother me - after all, calcium is good for you.

Limescale can also build up on tap filters, so every month or two I remove them, rinse off any particles of lime-scale, and put the filters in lemon juice for an hour or so.

We've got lemon trees, so that's no problem for us; otherwise you could do some rural shopping.
