Now that we are retired we want to spend 6 consecutive months here in Spain and although we get some good car hire deals at the airports, clearly a six month period is going to be prohibitively expensive. I don't really want to buy a car.
Any suggestions?
Have you considered taking your own car from home? If you insure your car with SAGA they cover you for unlimited European travel, you could get the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao or Santander and it's about eight hours drive across Spain or break journey in Madrid or else ware on route.

Another option is having your UK car transported down to Spain by a reputable reliable Transport Company near your location door to door .

Fed up of hire companies exploiting and charging extra for flies on the windscreen etc, we bought a cheap run around for 1500€, such a reliable and great car, Insurance was 230€ and our friends run it around the block once a month then disconnect the battery. It’s no problem whatsoever leaving it (being older no one is interested in it, if it gets bumped or scratched I’m not really bothered)...just a suggestion. Transporting a car from the Uk is expensive, driving yourself is a looong way, hiring is fraught with potential problems (someone for a joke ran a key down it last time and they walloped me out of my deposit) I had seperate insurance but they wouldn’t help me for malicious damage apparently.

Hi there, I have a good car and want to sell because we are now no longer need that because of health issue can' t go back to Spain. If you are interested we can nogociate price it is only driven 70 k km and runs perfect.

www.edirentacar.com Used them for years and highly recommend them as no hidden extras, ie. no extra insurance, no fuel costs, free child seats etc Family run business. No hassle queuing at the airport, they meet you and take you straight to the car.
