If you are a UK passport holder and living in the UK you will need a visa before you can live in Spain long term.

Hi,

Having an NIE does not make any difference at all.

As I posted before, if you are a UK passport holder and live in the UK now you will need to apply for a visa from the Spanish consulate in the UK.

If you are a retiree you will need to apply for a non lucrative visa and meet the income and healthcare requirements for the visa application.

If you come to Spain without a visa you not be granted residency.

Hi,

If you start a post you will get an email to say someone has replied no matter what the context is. It will be a reply but not necessarily about your original question.

I spent a long time recently trying to find an annual rental. I signed up online with Idealista, kyero, javeavillas, thinkspain, to name a few. You get emails when a property is posted, but often they have already been rented out when you call the agent. Perseverance and patience is needed. You may have to make a very quick decision when you find something.

Viewings are often scheduled for several people on one day, and the place usually goes to the first viewer. You may also find that the place is not the same as in the photos...(photo-shopped, perhaps?), or, it has gone to a tenant from another agency.   When I finally found a place, the contract was sent to my gestor, and the agent had it translated into English/Spanish so everyone was clear. I was charged €250 for all the admin in sorting out the contracts etc. BUT - I only got one look around when I viewed, with several other prospective tenants in the house at the same time. You won't get the keys till you sign the contract. Once I did get the keys, I found a number of problems in the house which I am still trying to get sorted by the owner, who doesn't live in Spain.

Good luck, and happy hunting.  Alicante has a lot of apartments for rent, more than the Denia/Javea costa area I was looking in.  Be patient, but make sure you are 100% happy with the place before you sign anything.

Thank you very much for this information, much appreciated.

Yes, I've also seen a number of apartments online. However, one place and they had a few long term rentals but we're asking for 11 months rental upfront 🙄

From what I could figure out it looked like it was a hotel very close to a beach. I suppose part is used for holidaymakers and the rest long term rentals.

To be honest, I wouldn't really like to live in that kind of environment.
