Dad, who is 93yrs old, had a mobility scooter which he uses to get around on.

He wants to go to Quesada under his own power by using his scooter.

I have tried to find out if he can use the pathway from Torrevieja to  Quesada but the ruling is confusing.

I know he can't use a designated cycle lane on the highway but can he use this path which has a cycle sign on the tarmac and is used by cyclists and pedestrians (and he's seen the odd mobility scooter on it!)

He is concerned that if he uses it the police will confiscate his mobility scooter.

Can anyone offer any advice on this matter please?

Do you speak enough Spanish to be able to pop in to your local police station and ask them?

If I lived in Spain and spoke Spanish that would have been my first port of call.   Regrettably I don't hence this posting.

You could try n332.es, which is the Spanish traffic police website for the Costa. It's in English, and I think you can post questions on it........

I can't answer legally but I know the road and the "cycle" path that you are talking about.

I have seen mobility scooters on it before and doubt anyone would bat an eyelid - although I'm not sure if I'd want to take a mobility scooter all that way along that path (to Quesada from Torrevieja is probably 8 or 9 km).

Any reasonable person would see that using that path (as opposed to the road itself) is the sensible thing to do.

One of the good things about Spain is they still seem to apply common sense in most instances! A mobility scooter will be slower than the speed that most cyclists travel on that path so it's not like his speed is likely to be of concern.

Thank you for your response. I too am of the same opinion and mobility scooters have been seen using it I was just hoping for some definite legal standing on the matter.

10km from Carrefour to Quesada centre. Probably at the limit of battery life to do that. And I have seen mobility scooters going along most of the cycle/pedestrian lane. Would think it rather dangerous actually on the road.

I think he said he tried it and the local police pulled him up about it. You'd  think they had better things to do with their time!

Hi Cheryl23,

Hopefully, the link below answers your question, but if there are specific roads you want to query, I'd suggest sending a message to N332 - it will be a Guardia Civil 'Trafico' police officer who will respond, not the Policia Local.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you for that. I find the double seating interesting as anyone with one would only be able to use it indoors as outside is either pavement or road where ever you go!
