Thanks jannali for all that information unfortunately i am not in a position to rent out my home in Ireland and go out to Spain to rent it's all or nothing for me if I'm going I'm going lock stock and barrel I'm going to do a bit more research before I go back I can't afford to make a big mistake.

Thankyou.

Keep on it, you’ll find a way even if it’s not when you wanted.

Does anyone know how long we will be able to stay in our Spanish homes after Brexit as a non resident?

Thank you

90 days in any 180 days assuming you don’t have an EU passport.,,. truth being told is that no one knows until it’s all thrashed out, they ‘probably’ will be some sort of agreement struck but who the hell knows..... I’ve stopped listening to all this brexit crap and nonsense.

Haha I've stopped listening too. My solicitor told me the deadline to apply to become residsnt is the last day of this month and you need to prove that you've lived there for 3 months. Is this true? I didn't think this was correct.

I'd also stop listening to your solicitor - he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Oh really? Do you know what the actual situation is? I'm currently buying a flat, it was meant to complete at the end of October but surprise surprise, it won't. The waiting time for an appointment at the Spanish Consulate is now still at 4 weeks, so I doubt I'll complete before December! What do I do re residency?

Much of the information imparted is correct, the original poster is lucky, being from the Republic if Ireland she is an EU citizen and will remain so after Brexit and the UK leaves the EU. UK Citizens living in Spain are in a very fragile position, especially retired people. Cheryl in her response mentions reciprocal health agreement, these agreements have been extended to 31st December 2020, if new agreements haven’t been negotiated with 27 EU countries, including Spain, private health insurance has to be obtained - expensive. People living in Spain will have received, or will receive, a letter from NHS giving details of this.

Reciprical agreements also covers taxation. I can only assume after Brexit, without  current agreements income tax will revert back to being paid in the UK.

Most pensioners receive a state pension from the UK, these pensions have been severely hit by the drop in exchange rate. According to a recently received letter annual pension increases are not going to be guaranteed unless agreements are reached. Another slap for pensioners.

'Reciprical agreements also covers taxation. I can only assume after Brexit, without  current agreements income tax will revert back to being paid in the UK.'

That isn't the case. The double taxation treaty is between the UK & Spain, and is unaffected by Brexit, so we will continue paying income tax in Spain.

'pension increases are not going to be guaranteed unless agreements are reached'

Amber Rudd has stated that pension increases will continue for three years after Brexit, and I understand that this is still the case. What happens after that still remains to be established.

The letter I received from UK, regarding pension increases, is dated 23rd September 2019, I do hope Amber Rudd’s statement isn’t more recent. I know pension increases are a pittance but, in this day and age, every bit is welcome.

Good news regarding taxation, many thanks for the info.
