My wife has owned a property in Torrevieja for 19yrs. We have just discovered that she does not have an NIE number. A temporary number appears to have been issued in 2019 but there is now no trace of it in any records. She will have to apply for a new number. Has anyone gone through this process through the Spanish Consul in London recently ? Any tips or advice please. Regards. Peter

I didn't know there was such a thing as a temporary NIE. Once you are issued an NIE it should be for life. If you have the deeds to the property the NIE will ne listed on there under the purchasers details. I also thought you couldn't buy a property without a valid NIE.
I'm no expert so could be wrong. I can only go off my own experience 18 years ago. My NIE is still the same and we had to get the NIE, bank account etc before purchase.

Thanks for your comments so far. The NIE number is not on the property deeds. She has been given a NIE number by her solicitor in Spain but there is no trace on the Govt systems of it. it would also have been in her maiden name. We just need advice regarding the Consulate in London please.

My friend just got her nie from the consul in Manchester as it was quicker than London. They did answer her emails and were very helpful.

Hi Myra2020.
I didn't know there was a Spanish Consul in Manchester ?
I thought there was only one on London ?
If in Manchester that would be much easier to get to as I live much nearer than London.

Trotter already answered but, yes, there is definitely one in Manchester and they were very helpful. My friend was early for her appointment, waited 2 minutes and was out after 10 minutes.

Hi, I believe you are "correct" in a Spanish way, we purchased 18 years ago and opened a bank account with passports and no NIE, we only got those when we moved here and applied ourselves and got them at an office near the windmill in Torrevieja (not sure the office is there anymore)!
