I have a fabulous memory: as long as I make a mental note on paper !

An active brain has been my route to a most successful life.  And, to harness the benefit, I always have a pocket note book and biro to hand in order to note down each and every idea or other thought that I need as an aide memoir.

Now, at 80 years of age, I find it helpful to listen to music on 'Sunshine radio FM' in order to shut down my thought process and help me go to sleep, when I retire to my bed.  So far so good - "Yes ?"

No, I have a problem in that I suffer with 'PTSD' (post traumatic stress disorder) as a result of the Falklands war, when HMS Sheffield was hit and sunk when hit by the excocet rocket.

In order to help me from waking my family with my screaming when I have one of my 'PTSD' nightmares, I listen to ballad music on 'Sunshine fm radio'.  But, they will insist on including 'RAP' music which only triggers my nightmares.

So, here's how readers of this missive might be able to help me.  Does anyone know of a radio station that does NOT play 'RAP' music between the hours of 1.00 am and 5.00 am ?

Since I am not allowed to put either my 'phone number or email address with this post, please keep an eye out for me in the bars around La Florida and Playa Flamenca, where most people will have seen me dancing !

Please do approach me, even if only to say: "Hello, Geoff !"

Commander Geoff 'K"

Hi Geoff

I also drift off to sleep with music, but I never use radio stations for a similar reason - they always play stuff I don't like!

I subscribe to Spotify which means I can play my own choice of music, without any adverts, for around 11 euros per month. The music available is seemingly infinite! You can listen using a mobile phone or a smart TV. I think you can also listen for free, but you will be subjected to annoying adverts.

Btw, yes, I recognise you and your rather distinctive style of dancing from local bars!

Cheers

Thank you, Steve.

But, did you know that, when I was in the Royal Navy, I was on the bridge of 'HMS Sheffield' when it was hit by an excocet rocket, during the Falklands War.  I was devastated when I was told that my spine had been broken in 3 places and that I would never walk again.  But, I told them to: "F**k off !  You just watch me."

The upshot is that, primarily, I dance for at least six hours every day - just to keep my spine mobile.

If I sit for more that 15 minutesor so, and with a cushion underneath me and another to support my spine, my spine locks up and I'm then unable to get up without someone giving me a pull up.

But, hopefully, I succeed at putting a smile on people's faces.

Geoff

Maybe it helps: Try www.onlineradiobox.com and select "jib on the web" or "beautiful instruments channel". I had to overcome  when during an RAF air raid 1945 over Magdeburg a bomb missed me and 4 more by 15 ft. I still hear the whistling sound...In 1916 my granddad was held POW in Donington Castle. After his release grandma had to prepare porridge every Sunday morning. The bottom line: all of us, that is including you, got away - luckily, so why not celebrate it while we still can?

Too much brain can give hard times. The best things in life are free, but you have to go for 'em. Will send you a PM.

I'll have you know that I have a PhD (Psychodynamics) degree from Cambridge University.

Try 'Google' and look my speciality subject up.  Then, whilst you are furthering your education, look up 'Dr Edward de Bono'.  He was my tutor.

Hi guys.

Killjoy seems to think I'm Geoff, and Geoff seems to think I'm killjoy!!

I'm Steve, who was just a teenager at the time of the Falklands War. Although funnily enough, I worked in the design department at British Aerospace, particularly on Harriers in the immediate aftermath of the war.

I therefore have a degree in beer drinking and aeronautical engineering!

Cheers

Hi Steve,

My husband's retired RAF.  He didn't like travelling in helicopters - when I asked him why not, he said "I've been drinking with the guys who fix them!" 😄  (At the risk of offending all aeronautical engineers, I believe the real reason is that, in the event of total engine failure, planes can glide - helicopters plummet 😳)

On a serious note, I recognise the experiences of Geoff and Killjoy.  My nephew was medically discharged from the Army, after his final "tour" in Afghanistan.  Long after his physical injuries had healed, he continues to be treated for PTSD - 10 years later, my sister is still devastated when she recalls the day her son told her that he wished he'd died alongside his friends.  I doubt he will ever fully recover his mental health, but he receives fantastic support from the engineering company he works for in the West Midlands and is now allowed to have his children to stay with him.  To hear that Geoff is still strutting his stuff on the dance floor at 80 years of age, despite his physical and mental injuries, is very encouraging 👍

My husband likes to relax into sleep by listening to the radio at night, but I find the sudden interjection of Spanish adverts has the opposite effect on me, so we subscribe to Spotify so that we can choose the music and it's advert-free; You-Tube offers a similar service.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hiya Geoff.

Thanks first for your Service.  I have tremendous respect for all the Forces.

Spotify already mentioned, seems a good alternative, but have you considered other radio stations.  Assuming you have sufficient Data, Smooth Radio sprung to my mind and though I haven't looked, probably has an App as well.

I like a background noise during the night due to loud and chronic 24/7 tinnitus problems, but any advert on Radio disturbs sleep so I use Sleep sounds on Amazon Alexa.

Hope you get it sorted.👍🏼
