I am flying to Alicante on New Years Day and am hoping to catch the bus or find a taxi to Torrevieja where I have an apartment. Will any supermarkets or restaurants be open in Jan 1st does anyone know?

I don't know the area, but petrol stations are usually open and most sell some food. Any ordinary restaurants, if open, will probably already be fully booked and charging high prices, but the Chinese restaurants may well be offering normal service.

Thank you for that. Any thoughts on whether there will be taxis available at Alicante airport. I'm not sure I've ever seen any (but maybe I've not been looking) and so not sure where they are.

From the arrivals hall, just go straight out of the big revolving doors, and the taxis are all lined up there. I've never paid any attention, but I think the buses are on the level below that.

Hola there will be restaurants open but no supermarkets as it is s red day national holiday. There will be maybe in the centre so small shops but not many.

Costa Azul bus last time is 10PM for 7 euros to Torrevieja. It's the same floor (1st) as the Costa Coffee place which is outside - then bus to Torrev is the last bust stop but one past the Costa Coffee.
