Would be interested to know how those actually in Spain are finding the vaccine rollout process, has it been well managed, are there some that think lives might be lost due to the Astra jab being put on hold due to possible blood clot issues. Your thoughts appreciated.

Nothing happening, totally shambolic and will remain like that until the EU stop blaming everything and everyone else for their catastrophic handling of the situation.

Then Von der Leyen Merkel's puppet pops up and starts throwing a tantrum, not a good look for the EU on the world stage.

Hi Robert,

"Slow" could be one way of describing it.  Spain started with vaccinating the elderly, vulnerable, frontline clinicians, care home workers and residents.  In our region, people aged 80+ are being vaccinated.  Spain is waiting for the report from the EMA today, before recommencing use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, but even if the result is positive, Spain is not using AZ on people over the age of 55; it's going to be used on younger people who are in other frontline roles, such as the police, fire officers and teachers.  It's worth remembering that Spain is administering 2 doses in the 3-week timeframe specified by the pharma's, so a greater proportion of Spain's population has been fully vaccinated.

In the meantime, it seems that patience really is a virtue......  ;o)

Kind regards,

Kim

Spain seem to be taking a different road with the vaccines and while 4 million (9% of the population) have had their first dose they are following up the second jab much quicker than the U.K. with 1.9 million already now fully vaccinated. That’s more than have had the second jab in the U.K.!

Seems the EMA have accepted use of the Astra vaccine.

What’s the population of Spain?  Your 1.9 million is a tiny drop in the ocean. By the middle/end of April, we will all have had our 2nd vaccination

My friend, a retired nurse has volunteered to help with the administering of the vaccinations locally. It’s going to be all go. In truth, you have no idea what it’s like knowing that you have been inoculated against covid19, it’s like winning the lottery. It’s terrible that there isn’t enough vaccines available in Europe just yet and on top of that, many will be foolish enough to refuse the Oxford Zeneca because of all the unfair hype. I truly wish you could all get yours sooner rather than later. In the mean time, there’s very little of the virus in your area and it’s highly unlikely that tourism will commence for some time so you should be safe enough until the vaccine program really gets a move on. Fingers crossed.

Hi Grannyrose,

The population of Spain is around 47m,  the UK around 67m.  You will not "all" have had the vaccination by middle/end April, the UK government is forecasting July before all adults have been vaccinated.  In fact, you must have completely missed the news in the last week that no-one in the UK general population under 50 years of age can book a vaccine,  as there will be known shortages in April.

As for all the "unfair hype" around the AstraZeneca jab, EU countries are not the only ones concerned about the lack of AZ's data.  The USA has not approved that vaccine either and is unlikely to do so before April.

As 'Science Insider' reported this week, the US has not approved the AstraZeneca vaccine for two main reasons:

"The first is that AstraZeneca's US trial is still ongoing. The trial was delayed for nearly seven weeks in the fall due to an adverse reaction in a UK participant.

"The second is that AstraZeneca's initial trial results in November puzzled many experts. The company combined data from its Brazil and UK groups, even though they had different sample sizes and demographics.  It also averaged the results of two different dosing regimens, one of which was administered by mistake."

It doesn't help that the UK press has been constantly reporting this as some kind of EU  punishment for the UK's Brexit.

I have no idea on what information you base your comment, "there’s very little of the virus in your area" - are you referring to Spain?  Comunidad Valenciana? Torrevieja?  Perhaps you could share your source with us?

Stay safe,

Kim

Hello

I was wondering how to respond to Grannyrose 's mostly inaccurate & unfounded post  about vaccine  & the virus in Spain , especially the  paragraph you also questioned ,I would love to see where she has got her information from.

I am in total agreement with all your  facts & comments....thanks  Kim
