I would suggest you get professional guidance rather than the conflicting advice you will get on the Forum, See the advertisement on the Forum homepage for Gran Alacant Insurances and speak to Alfonso, he is English speaking, very professional, helpful and friendly. He will be able to guide you through the correct levels of cover that will be required for Residencia. We used his services and very delighted with his help and advice.

Likewise, a good Insurance advisor like Alfonso at Gran Alacant Insurances ( see their advertisement on the Forum ) will confirm that, help you through the process and guide you to buying into the Spanish Healthcare System after you have had your Residencia for a year.
Also note that because of "chancers" who took out Private health Insurance by Direct Debit, then after getting their Residencia cancelled their Direct Debit, the Insurance has to be paid for a full year at the time of taking out the cover.
