I am looking to come out in the summer with my kids and would like to stay in a holiday rental rather than a hotel to get a proper feel for buying a home in the future. Is car hire essential or is there anywhere in the area that has a good public transport service? I will want to visit the beach, Villamartin plaza, La Zenia boulovord, the salt lakes etc. Really didnt want to drive as I want to relax. Should I just get on with it and hire the car...gulp?

Thanks

You will find it very difficult to find a bus service to get to those places from a local bus stop (wherever you decide to stay)

There will no doubt be organised trips but you will still need to get to the pick-up point.

Public transport is not that linked up on Orihuela costa. I would not want to be waiting for a bus with the sun beating down. One suggestion that would give you the chance to relax is coach trips David's Coaches or  Rosa tours check out their websites for destinations. According to various posts getting a taxi during the summer proved to be well nigh impossible.

This really helpful. Looks like I'll need to bite the bullet and hire a car. Hopefully it's not to difficult or scary.

If you've never driven in Spain before it can seem a bit daunting but take it nice and steady and don't let those idiots honking horns for no reason put you off!!

After a few miles it will become natural to drive in Spain as it is in the UK.

There is a bus service from Torre de la Horadada to Alicante (and plenty of stops on the way) practically every day of the year. I did loads of research before I decided to buy. Torre ticks all the boxes apart from a mad party atmosphere: Benidorm it is not😁

"Benidorm it is not"

I'm in my 70's and love Benidorm........and I'm virtually tea total........

Its pointless doing that sort of comparison.

Each to their own.....

Hello

Firstly Anne, you havent said where in Torrevieja you will be staying. It is a big area with many Urbanisations & locations , that info. will dictate how many buses you will have access to & how close to the main bus station - this  station  has buses going beyond Torrevieja in several directions.

So, a bit more info. from you and a lot more bus info will be available.

Torrevieja local bus services are getting a major upgrade very soon so by next year even more services/routes will be available,

Cheers

Hi Anne

Torrevieja itself has a very good local bus service but it doesn't go to Villamartin (because it's not in Torrevieja). However it does go to La Zenia Boulevard even though that isn't in Torrevieja either! There are plenty of beaches so you should be able to get to one easily so long as you're near the coast. I'm not sure about a bus service to the lakes.

These local buses extend from La Mata in the north to Punta Prima in the South, and inland to San Luis. See here https://costazul.net/lineas-urbanas/

If you were to stay somewhere in Punta Prima, you could easily catch a bus to either Torrevieja or the Boulevard, and it's a short walk to a beach. It's also possible to get to Villamartin by bus - but it's not frequent and doesn't run late, or at weekends (except in July and August). Punta Prima is also full of bars and restaurants, many with free entertainment.

In summer there is also a tourist "train" that runs around the back roads - I think they start at the Boulevard.

Hope I've helped!

Cheers

OMG I have been trying to find out the area that train was in for months. Thank you.

I will also start researching punta prima. Great advice.
