I wonder if anybody has had any recent experience of disentangling themselves from Mapfre insurance, their home insurance to be exact. Read where folk have had problems doing this and being able to cancel a policy. Their prices going up & up & would have done it sooner but for Covid.

THat is common pocedure of almost all Spanish insurers. The best and effective way to get out of the trap is advising your bankers not to make aby further payents to the insurer. They will probably try to scare you with lega l action, however Spanish Law is on your side, since they cannot proove having DULY advised you on any premium increase.

...having DULY advised you on any premium increase.
Their policy runs out in 2 months time & they’ve just sent me the new increased premium. As it was set up through the bank 4 years ago and Covid kept me away when I had intended changing insurers as well as banks I’m playing catch up now. I’ve had no direct contact with Mapfre though I sent an email that was unanswered. I won’t be over again until after the renewal is in place & having read on another forum how much difficulty somebody had changing and cancelling with them I was hoping to get written proof of same.

You must give them 2 months notice to leave them so seems that's now or it's too late to cancel.

You must email them stating that you do not want to renew their policy. It is important to do so very soon. Email Mapfre and whoever arranged the policy with. You can do this from wherever you are in the World.
