Arrived in torrevieja november, renting.  Have an Irish passport. Does anyone know am I entitled to sign on with a medical centre here. I am 74, in good health presently, but would like the peace of mind of having medical cover should I need it in future.

Have an N I E number.

How to hear from you soon.

Anne

Are you living here permanently? If so, you should register with the padron at the Town Hall and then apply for ‘residencia’, for which you will need the relevant paperwork from the DSS - usually Newcastle for expat British, but the equivalent for Ireland presumably. This shows that you are in receipt of a pension and were entitled to UK/Irish healthcare; this then transfers your healthcare to Spain. Once you have residencia, and the DSS paperwork, you may apply for your healthcare entitlement.

Hola,

When you state that you hold an Irish Passport are you saying that you are an Irish citizen or a U.K.citizen?  If you are a U.K. citizen then you will have an E111 Card. Go to your nearest medical centre and pray that they speaks a little English! I think you must also bring your passport with you and hopefully, they will issue you with a SIP card which entitles you to see a doctor if you need this service. I think this card only lasts for 3 months. As a citizen of the U.K. you will be allowed treatment when producing this card.  If you are living in the Republic of Ireland, I am not sure whether they have a reciprocal arrangement for medical treatment in Spain or anywhere else for that matter. I know the the U.K have a reciprocal arrangement in place at present.

Let us know how you get on

Lived in England since I was 17 years old. Have an English pension and a English European health card. The Irish passport is to make things easier when brexit happens.

Thanks for the advice, got family visiting me soon, want to see how they are managing without me, before making the decision to stay. They seem to keep in touch more since I came here, then, when I lived down the road from them.

People are strange, aren’t they?  Still, it is lovely that they are coming to Spain to visit you. In the mean time, do go and get your sip card and once you do this, it will be easy to renew it every 3 months.

I hope you have a lovely time with your family over Easter.

Best wishes. R?

Been to the bank today to open a Spanish bank account, got an appointment for Wednesday. I wonder if anyone knows of a good money transfer company, who will give me a good exchange rate for my pounds. Have been told they will deposit euros into my Spanish account and that would save some bank charges?

Hope to from you soon.
