I'm moving to el Chaparral Torravieja which know one seems to be near I'm going to be alone 50% off the time with my bichon frise wee dog. As my husband will still work in scotland and travel back and forth. I need company and someone who understands the laws and how to integrate into Spanish life

Hi, there are lots of bars and restaurants in El Chaparral with plenty going on. There is also a bus that goes into Torrevieja via el chapperal, la siesta and San Luis. My husband and I have been in San Luis for nearly 2 years and have met lots of people.

You will soon get talking to people, especially if you have a cute doggy. We found it easy to make friends when we came. If you go to a bar regularly for coffee or something, people start talking to you. I go to keep fit twice a week at George's bar in la siesta. Again it's a way to get to know people.

Hi Heather and welcome to the forum!

We moved permanently to Spain over 5 years ago and some of our closest friends here are those people we met when walking our woof.

Since Brexit, the EU no longer recognises UK-issued pet passports, so as a minimum your dog needs to be microchipped, have a current rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate - speak to your UK vet about these. Also, you should ask your vet about protection against Leishmaniasis, a potentially life-threatening disease carried by the Sandfly mosquito and endemic in the Mediterranean basin.  As the UK is rabies-free, your dog will not need to be quarantined on arrival in Spain.

Once you arrive in Spain, you can apply for an EU pet passport - this will be useful if you plan to travel back to the UK at any time with your woof, as the UK continues to recognise EU pet passports, it will also be more convenient for returning to Spain, or any other EU country.

Kind regards,

Kim

This is extremely helpful thankyou so much for all this information. I'm not going to lie I do feel abit out my depth at times with all this. Brexit has really changed a hole load off rules I thought were still in place. I'm learning but it's so helpful to talk to people who are there and have been through it. So once again thankyou so much xxx
