Just came across this forum and after a quick scan decided to join. we have been here since the 1st of the month having driven down from Wales and despite the best efforts of Gloria thoroughly enjoying our stay so far. we are here until 1st April so any tips on places to visit, be they museums, castles or somewhere nice to sit and relax, are most welcome. we are staying roughly mid-way between Los Locos and Playa Del Cura beaches.

Hi David and welcome to the forum!
I'm sure there's plenty you can do on your doorstep, but as you're here for a few months, do you have a hire car? If so, a 30 minute trip to Elche (the "city of palms") is worth a visit, as is the Roman amphitheatre and castle in Cartagena. For a longer trip, the castle and village of Guadalest are well worth a visit and it's a beautiful drive.
If you don't fancy driving yourself, you could have a look at the websites for Rosa's Tours https://www.viajesrosatours.com and David's Coach Trips https://www.coachtripsonline.com
Hope you have a lovely time.
Kind regards,
Kim

thanks for the suggestions, yes Kim we have our own car here so getting about is no problem. in fact, we have already done a 3-day trip down to Mojacar and locally to the Friday and Playa flamenco markets.is Cartagena castle that large one you pass under on the A7? Carole bookmarked it for a visit as we were returning from Mojacar. will definitely go to Alicante as well, only ever visited the airport there, LOL. Cheers to both. David

Hi David,
I think the castle you saw from the A7 may have been Lorca - it's atop a hill just before you go through one of the tunnels. We stayed in Lorca parador, one of the government funded hotels, built next to the castle and which incorporates some of the castle foundations. In the towers above ground (you can buy entrance tickets from hotel reception), you can see the damage done by the 2011 earthquake.
I'd also recommend Lorca's archaeological museum, which includes the history of the parador, and the Centro de Artesania, where you can view and buy local works of art, rugs, ceramics and jewellery.
Kind regards,
Kim

Novelda church is lovely too, its Alicante's very own sagrada familia ! ( but smaller ) , the views are wonderful, the architect of the church was actually the apprentice of Gaudi !! In Novelda town there is a lovely park in the style of "parc guell" another gaudi design, but advise to check opening times online as frequently change!!
Hi. Planning on driving down early February. What route did you use? Tunnel or boat. Newport lad born and raised now in London. Have place in La Mata. Staying until May this trip
Hi Terry.
We drive regularly as we take our dog with us. We have travelled the route numerous ways. You can either take the boat from Plymouth -Santander Or Plymouth to st Malo. That cuts out some toll charges and driving time. This time we went via Dover to Calais on the ferry one way and the tunnel back ( couldn’t get out on the tunnel as was fully booked before Christmas) but would recommend the tunnel as it’s a lot quicker. How many stop overs are you intending to do?
Regards
Zack
