Hello everyone,

I am from central Scotland and have been wanting to buy a holiday home with my husband in the Torrevieja area for some time.

So I am finally in a position to buy a holiday home this year. I don't have a huge budget 60,000/65,000 euros tops as I am allowing another 13% for fees etc. Hoping for 2 bedrooms, access to some decent outside space as I have a small dog and a nearby pool would be good. I joined the forum today and have already found lots of useful information and questions I should be asking estate agents. I have been looking online for a long while trying to get an idea of areas. I'd like to find out as much as I can and then get over to see the areas that I think I would like best, but also hoping that I will be lucky and find something on my first trip as I don't want to eat into my savings too much on initial travel costs. I'd like to ask if anyone has completed a purchase recently and have any recommendations who to deal with.  I read in another post that some areas more likely to flood than others and would like to avoid these areas. I don't mind inland as long as there are good transport links to a beach/big town. If anyone would like to offer advice, their experiences, things to look out for or avoid, please let me know! Thank you.

Might be worth reading before you make an offer or commit yourself.

This is definitely not the moment to even think in buying property. I would wait and keep an eye on prices (not what the agents say). In about 9 months time the market will be completely different, mainly from unpaid mortgages.

Hi,

We recently brought a property in San Miguel de salinas.I did 95% of the work on line and when we thought we found property’s to view we came over. Estate agents are not so bad, just do your research on properties in that area and there value, but it is a buyers market and we achieved a 15% drop in price. Email all the estate agents get yourself on their books and they will send you all their relevant properties.

We found INMO  investments The most likeable people to work with but unfortunately they didn’t have a property we liked. watching programmes like a (place in the sun ) is useful as it at least gives you a visual of the area. To avoid flooding keep away from rivers and stay up high...

I absolutely love our property and when COVID allows will be back there.... good luck!

Regards

Hi Linda,

And welcome to the Forum. Read Jim’ s guide at the top of the page his knowledge is invaluable when purchasing a property.

Your budget is a good one in these unprecedented times and I’m sure you would be able to get what you are looking for.

Do you want to be on an urbanisation or in the heart of town?

Before you go over get a solicitor so they can arrange an appointment to pick up your  NIE and get the ball rolling. We used My Lawyer in Spain who where great.

As I am new to Torrevieja I know little about other areas than the heart of town, but others will guide you with their replies.

Good luck

Hi, I would like to be on an urbanisation and if it's Torrevieja then I would like to be near the salt lakes. I think I will need to come over to truly know what I want. I've heard of My Lawyer so it's good to know you found them good. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your reply. It is certainly unexpected times and I guess you are right that there may be a downturn. Don't know that I can wait 9 months though but using the time I have just now to work out where I would like to buy.

I didn’t mention we used my lawyer in spain, got to them via A place in the sun website, can highly recommend them. Isabel was our abogado she was so very good.

I will point out we never met her, just gave her power of attorney and she sorted bank account and nie too.

Wonderful service..
