Hi everyone we are Karen and Jim from Scotland..

How I wish I’d found this forum earlier !! We have just returned from a 10 day holiday in torre ,it was our first visit and the reason for visiting is we are hoping to eventually relocate there ,this forum has great info on it and had I seen it before our visit we’d have had a much better holiday as sadly we really never seen any of the places talked about on here for some reason hubby and I seemed to only walk to either the marina or along the sea front we did venture up to Florida urbanisation area but obviously at the wrong time as it was VERY quiet ....on our return to the airport we took the bus from bus station (great service) and wow we couldn’t believe all the areas we missed i.e Habaneras shopping centre and all the urbanisation around it !! So in preparation for our next visit I’m doing my online homework on here guys :) looking forward to interacting with your topics about the area folks x

Hi and welcome! We moved out in September after doing the same walks as you, and there's plenty of time for exploration! Sounds like you've fallen in love anyway and that's the main thing! If you get the chance rent first in Torrevieja and then decide where you want to live. Do lots of walking (many places are advertised privately) and lots of Internet research - we used mainly idealista and pisos.com and then went to see where flats were before contacting agencies to view so we remained in control rather than get railroaded by estate agents. Happy to meet up next time you're out here - just pm me! 😀

Which Torre?   As Spain is such a big country there are many places that start with these 5 letters!   Torrevieja, Torremundo, Torremolinos, Torre Pacheco to name just a few.

Ah, having just read further into your message, I assume that you mean Torrevieja.

Hi Karen, Welcome to posting on The Forum, and good luck in your research in preparation for your next trip out.

If no car etc, then Buses, by virtue of the way they often serve local Residential areas and Shopping and Leisure facilities etc, are always a good means of seeing what is out and about, both locally ,and afar.

It was great you got to experience this, albeit on the way back to the Airport. Was your trip, on arrival from The Airport to Torrevieja by means other than by bus ?

Hi Karen, hubby and I from Scotland. Moved out here permanently 6 maths ago and have never looked back. We still have 10yrs or so before retirement age and thought do now rather than wait and best  move we have made. We bought in August looked all round only 2 areas and decided just outside Los Montesinos. I understand why people that we have spoken to  how they have lived here permanently for years and love it so much. We have settled in quickly. My husband has joined a cycling group, we have met some nice local people of all ages and nationality. Not met any Scottish as yet lol. There is nothing not to unlike. I'll help with any info I can but I am sure you will get lots of helpful hints

Hi Karen, welcome to the forum, it's a great place to find info on just about everything you will need for moving out to Spoain and settling in.

As for areas to reside , we came out a few times over a year and decided to travel on the local bus routes in and out of town to the different urbanisations as well as renting off AirBnB in those areas too. We settled on San Luis, but the entire La Siesta/ElChapparal area are perfect for just about everywhere with a good mix of nationalities, facilities and house prices. The areas around Habaneras are nice too, but are prone to flash flooding, so bear that in mind if you are looking for something low level. La Mata is also very nice.

We've met many Scots, English and Irish on our trips,( no Welsh yet) so you won't be alone but also, crucially, there's many German, Belgians and Scandanaviands in thse areas as well as good Spanish poulation too.  It's an extremely cosmopolitan town and district.

Good luck.

Hi not long joined and have holiday home in playa flamenca: recently retired we can now spend a month in Spain and a month at home in Scotland. Although the weather just now is so bad it may soon be for Longer. Have made lots of lovely friends here. A truly special place.
