We would love to move to Spain and be able to turn our hands to anything. My husband is a fully qualified Air conditioning installation engineer and I have many years of admin supervisory/PA experience.

Any tips on where to start with accommodation (buying or renting) and job hunting would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome, first thing would be which passport you hold, U.K. or eu

Regarding working in air conditioning, I was a refrigeration and air conditioning engineer for 40 years before retiring, our U.K. qualifications are not recognised so you would need to gain  the equivalent qualification to carry out the work, the electrical requirements in Spain are also different so that is something else you would need to obtain.

If you only have a U.K. passport then you would need to find someone to sponsor your job application and apply for a visa but any available jobs have to be offered to eu members first.

If you are not EU/EEA passport holders I'm afraid moving to Spain is not that simple. UK passport holders must apply for a visa and all job vacancies must be offered to Spainish or EU/EEA first. The following links may be useful:

The following website has a plethora of properties for sale and for rent. There is a  interactive map which enables you to search a specific area:

Every document requires The Hague Apostille stamped seal.  You will need to have your S1 forms.  Tons of paper work. Lots of patience.  Many things are very expensive.  Be prepared for some corruption.  Before arriving familiarise yourself with the Spanish language; YouTube has lots of free lessons.  When purchasing a property do NOT use the one the estate agent recommends.  Make sure that our property is without debts and your appointed lawyer and notary have everything legalised at local, regional and international level.  Request a list of legitimate lawyers from the British consulate office in Alicante.   Bedrooms tend to be very tiny and the walls are made of flower pot structures and are paper thin - only single layer without insulation.  Recommend Caixabank.  Advise you to have a gestor to complete your yearly taxes.  Movistar is an excellent high speed fiber optic internet service provider - first nine months is €29.99 per month.  If you are bringing your car then make sure you find a good garage to handle the car import papers and technical control.

Regarding learning the Spanish language there are no quick fixes, you tube will just teach snippets, as someone who is currently learning the language I would advise lessons so you get some kind of structured learning, if you are thinking of moving across anytime in the future then there is no time like the present to start learning 😊

If you coming in a NLV (No lucrative Visa). You won’t be able to work for at least the first 5 years.

I’m a qualified A/C engineer. I installed my own Multi Systems in Spain. Took them over from the UK just before the B word.

many a/c installers don’t have  qualifications Spanish or otherwise. After all, you can buy them off the shelf from Leroy Merlín.

I thought about coming over years ago to work in refrigeration and air conditioning but my then wife didn’t want to go, I am retired now but I do still miss repairing and installing refrigeration equipment
