Thankyou web designer

I think I would like 5he best of both of those you mentioned which I suppose is again getting the right area that you can walk away from the partying and walk to the more quite chilled areas I'm not sure how far away these areas are from each other on foot or taxi as I don't wasn't to incur extra costs but I'm thinking that somehow I will have to make a couple of visits need to get it done before December

Thank you in advance for any information you can give me

Best of both worlds? For me then would be Villajoyosa. Lovely seafront with some great bars, cafes and restaurants. Good nightlife too. It's got tourists but the place has quite a cosmopolitan feel with a pretty chilled vibe. Age is very mixed, but mostly I'd say 30 plus. It's on the tram line so easy access to everywhere. And when you want to party hard, Benidorm is a few stops away.

Not cheap though. Not at all.

Finestrat is nice too, both the old town a few km's into the mountains and the coastal resort.

I'm sure there are similar places in and around Torrevieja, I just don't know that area very well.

Thank you for your response I appreciate it I've never heard of villajoyosa but it sounds great can you still draw pension from UK and not get stung. So many questions in my head driving me dizzy

There are guides on this site to help, called Jim's guide I believe. Neither the pension status nor brexit effect me, so it's not really something I've looked too hard into. My basic understanding is that if an EU citizen you need to be able to prove an income sub €1k, and a pension can count towards this. If not an EU member then it's around €2.5k. But don't quote me, as I say, I've not looked into it much. I don't plan on making a perm move for a few years yet, I'm a way off pensionable age yet and I'm independently funded, so I'll deal with those things as and when I have to.

I do see loads of discussions about it though, so accurate info shouldn't be hard to find here.

Hi Anita

Looking at your subsequent replies, I think you will have to spend as much of this year as you can just visiting different areas and having a look around them.  There are many within easy reach of the airport and all with decent transport links to it, without the need of owning a car.

To give you an example,  we visited a good number of areas across the Alicante region, over a two year period, before plumping on our final spot. However, there are lots of choices and factors to consider and a lot will depend on your total budget. I appreciate Brexit creates a lot of uncertainty for you, but my advice is to take your time.

Snap!

We started seriously researching three years ago and started visiting and staying in various places two years ago, typically getting over 4-5 times a year. We've now settled on the region (Between Alicante and Benidorm, most likely around El campello), and now plan to nail it down to a village/town. We also plan to rent for the first year, just so we can move again if needed.

In that two years several places have stood out, and we really thought they were "the one", but after spending some time in them, even for just a week, we've gone off them. As my wife says, you have to "stand on the land" to really know.

I believe that the best rate for your State Pension would be to have it paid direct from the DWP to your Spanish bank account.   Mine is due on a Friday every 4 weeks and normally gets into my Spanish bank account on the following Monday, but sometimes it is Tuesday.

For those who have not yet moved to Spain it may be a good idea to have a look at Jim's Guides on this site, also the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain may help.   If you need to know about driving in Spain then look at the N332 site, which is run in conjunction with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.
