I have stayed in La Siesta and San Luis which are on the edge of Torrevieja, it is 5km to the centre, I like this area because it is quieter and is made up mainly of individual villas, similarly in San Luis, but there is a square in San Luis where you can get a coffee or any drink, a few eating places, a shop with english owners who are very helpful, and a couple of other businesses.  La Siesta also has bars and a restaurant and El Chapperal which runs alongside La Siesta also has plenty going on.  Regular buses go to the centre of Torreeja from these habitations. Also for 5euros you can catch a bus to Alicante and take in the sights there. I have stayed in Los Altos which is by Torrevieja Hospital but it is very compact and there always seems to be cranes around building yet more apartments etc.  I really hope that you enjoy Spain and all it has to offer.  Good luck & best wishes

Pat

Look for accommodation in Playa Del Cura which is almost in Torrevieja.  From there, you can walk into town or travel on a bus to La Mata. There are several apartments online...book quickly. The airport bus will drop you in town and depending on the amount of luggage, you could take a taxi or a bus to your rental which isn’t far away so won’t cost too much.  Alternatively, look for accommodation in La Mata which is idyllic. You can bus into Torrevieja for €1.35 or walk along the boardwalk for most of the way.  Market day is Wednesday which is wonderfully busy with lots of people sipping coffees or enjoying lunch close to the beach. Torrevieja market is on Friday, no longer in the middle of town but now in a purpose built area on the bus route.  This whole area is not “little Britain”. It is spanish with a mix of retirees from all over Europe. The staff in all the restaurants speak English but are usually spanish.

For your first visit, try to find accommodation close to the coast. You will know after a day or two if this is your dream which I think it may very well be!

We are nearing the end of February so time is moving very quickly.....not long now!

All the best,

Grannyrose.

hi Anita, you could rent for 3 to 6 months first. then have a good look around the area. I'm renting for 6 months around the la mata area, whilst looking for somewhere more permanent.

Hola Anita,

Well, this Coronavirus pandemic has certainly put a stop to your intended search.  It will allow you more time to consider your options. As a career you will no doubt work longer than you planned so get a chance to earn some extra money for your retirement.

Please let us know how you are getting on in the UK.  Are you keeping well?  Stay healthy and well.

Regards,

Rosemary.
