Hi

Well I'm sure alot of you have seen something like this before on here but I'm just looking for up to date advice/opinions.

My wife and myself are early 50's and have decided to buy a holiday apartment in the Sun. We were between Fuertaventura and Alicante. Being from Ireland, Fuertaventura would be approx 4 hrs flight and Alicante 2 hrs approx. Basically, we have decided that Alicante would be a better choice as we intend to start by going here a few times a year and obviously the shorter flight is more suitable.

We have been looking at Gran Alacant and Torrevieja. I know this forum is Torreviega based and would just like to ask what  we can expect for our budget. We have had a quick look at Jims guide ( we will study it more of course ) and understand that we need to allow around 13% on top of apartment price. Our question is, what standard of apartment could we expect to get in a nice area for a total payment of €85,000-€90,000. This would be including all fees/taxes. Can someone recommend nice complexes or areas that we could expect to obtain what we are looking for. We will of course be travelling there first to view and have a good look around but it would be good to know what to expect or where to head for.

Thanks, Kieran/Eileen..

It would depend upon where you want to be, i.e. coast or inland, beach or mountain, tourist or Spanish, busy or isolated.   Also the size and location of apartment, 1, 2 or more bedrooms and 1, 2 or more bathrooms, ground floor, upper floor or top floor.   Sorry to be so 'picky' but prices can range from around 30,000 euros to 1 million or more.

Hi

Thank you for your advice and opinions. Yes I understand what you say about size. location ect. I would like to think that we could be within 10 mins walk of beach, town centre ect. Ideally 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom would be good but a 1 bedroom in a nice location would also be worth considering.

Thanks again

Kieran.

Go to idealista.com or kyero.com or to the property section of this group. You'll see lots of different types of properties and that'd give you an idea also of what you can afford with your budget. You'll also see price differeces for similar accomodations, perhaps then you could ask why on this forum and those who know could explain more. It's usually due to location and proximity to places like beach, shops etc....

Personally I think with your budget and description, you could easily get what you want.

I'm from county Kildare and I wish you all the best

Hi

Thanks very much for the above replies and help.Very nice to hear that we have a good chance within our budget, Jerry, I'll check out casasespania.com. It's great to know that someone like yourself used them before and found them good. Later in the process,I might get back to ye for advice on a good reliable solicitor there. Yes Ujuudeaghda, Kyero and idealista do seem good for guide prices and I will ask more about different pricing later in the process.I assume you're correct when you say more expensive for close to sea/shops ect. it will be interesting to check all that out as we go along..

Best of luck and thank you again.

Good morning Kier66

We live in NI and are fortunate enough to own a wonderful house in Torrevieja. As you probably are aware, Torrevieja is a working town so is busy all year round

It is on the coast which is another plus. Our place is on the La  Mata side so we are within walking distance to the stunning, sandy beach. Lots and lots of shops and restaurants nearby too.

People don’t seem to understand that winter in that part of the world is cold after the sun goes down  During the day the skies are blue and it is usually sunny and pretty hot but by 5pm it becomes cold. Most properties are built for the summer season with no insulation or heating.  Beware

If you find an apartment in an area you both like, look for air con which heats in the winter and cools in the summer.  A door closing into the hallway is a must or the possibility of installing one. You can install small low cost radiators throughout once you buy. Allow for this and you will need an oil filled heater or gas fire too.

Storage.   Vital. Remember all those beach chairs, heaters, suitcases and more need to be hidden away.

Clothesline.   Check for a big communal line on the roof.  You need somewhere to dry the washing

Parking.  A must

Room for bicycles

Patio / terrace south facing with an awning for intense sunshine in summer months

Neighbours.    Check out and listen for dog barking which is enough to drive you mental.   Look for neat and tidy properties .

Most people will advise that you rent for 6 months to a year in order to get a feel for the area

Bus service   Also very important

We used to regularly take the bus into town until we became lazy and hired a car and subsequently bought one.

If you buy an apartment, is there a lift? Remember your luggage and shopping have to be carried upstairs!

So many important things to consider.  Do your homework and you won’t have any regrets.

We absolutely love Torrevieja as do our grown up children.

Make sure you can put a sky dish up for British tv.  We always bring our skybox out so that all the sport is readily available. We subscribed to Netflix last January for their lowest tariff ( not sure but €7.99 monthly rings a bell) brilliant especially if the weather turns bad as sky stops working and no tv to watch. Last Easter during the torrential rains which lasted for 3 or 4 days, we watched back to back episodes of Outlander and were as happy as Larry!

I hope this helps you.

The other end of Torrevieja encompasses Playa Flamenca, La Zenia and Cabo Roig all beautiful but very English which is great if you want lots of English speaking company. Our side of town is cosmopolitan, Swedish, Norwegian, Russian, French, some Irish and English but not so many. More Spanish really.

You will be very happy in this location. You should have no difficulty finding something in your price range.  The prices never really went back to the high end so now is your chance to buy.

Good luck

Anything you need to know, please ask.

Best wishes

Rosemary.

Hi Rosemary

Thank you very much for all that information and advice. A few things there that we never thought of. The heating would of course be an issue.I believe  where you are (La Mata) is very nice. Basically. we will be going there later in the spring  to have a good look around. i'll keep your post here for reference and will consider everything you said when looking.

Hope you enjoy your time there and best of luck.

Thanks again

Kieran..

Hi you will get a two bed apartment in several locations priced at that money.

Look up Kyero website and it will give you properties all over the Costs Blanca.

Best of luck

Patrick
