Hi all

My name is Elaine (54 yrs young!) and I am planning to move from Scotland to Torrevieja at the end of next year.  I would like to request information on where to start this process. With all new guidelines after Brexit, I am finding it difficult to know what to do or where to ask for help.

Can someone please tell me how to start the process or point me in the right direction for help?

Any information/advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you, Elaine x

Hi Elaine,

We are currently applying for our NLVs and hope to move to Torrevieja area in mid October. You can do the paperwork yourself, but for less stress we are using a company called Upsticks, ran by Chris. I can really recommend him, he has helped us so much with all the preparation of paperwork and for a fee it is so worth it

His website is Upsticks.com.

Good luck with your plans as ns maybe we can meet up with you for as coffee in Spain.

Hi,

If you are a UK passport holder and want to live in Spain permanently you will need to apply for a visa from the Spanish consulate in the UK.

You say you are 54 years old, so if you want to move to Spain and work you will need to apply for a job and secure a position first and then your prospective employer will need to apply for a work visa on your behalf from the Spanish consulate in the UK. You cannot just move to Spain and then look for work. All work positions available must be offered to an EU passport holders first, by law.

If you intend to retire to Spain then you will need to apply for a non lucrative visa from the Spanish consulate in the UK. You will need to prove that you have an income of around €28,000 per annum and full private healthcare paid for a full year.

It would help a little if you state which passport you have and if you intend on working here or retiring.

This may help:

How to apply for a Non-Lucrative visa (NLV)

Whatever the situation you will need some sort of visa before you can move over to Spain and live permanently.

Hello

End of next year  is approx  16/17 months away, any info given to you now could  be subject to change/increase . There is current info available, read the advice given in the posts above,   but I suggest you ask again in a years time .

You could look to buy a property now, as a non resident & use it as a holiday home  later to become a permanant home but...... make sure you will meet  all the requirements for a Visa to move here otherwise it will remain a holiday home.

Cheers

Hi Patrick

Thanks very much for your advice, I will definitely have a look at upsticks.com website.  A coffee would be lovely once I get there.  Thanks, Elaine.

Hello Elaine

We moved to La Zenia just south of Torrevieja in April and we used Upsticks and can recommend they were wery good at a reasonable price with plenty of knowledge to help you. You can book a no obligation phone call from them on there Web site. I have encluded a link to a vidio that Chris put up today.

Hi,

We moved to Javea in March this year with the NLV. We used a company listed on U.K. Gov webpage called myspainvisa. Lucia is based in Spain and was fantastic in enabling us to go through the process smoothly. She was readily available by email to help out with any questions or issues. You can do process yourself but we found lots of disappointed people at the Spanish consulate on collecting our visas and passports who had gone through the process themselves encountering many visits to consulate and wasted money. We will definitely go through the second part of visa update next year with Lucia. She also got our appointments for NIE and TIE after arriving in Spain. Good luck happy to answer any questions.
