Hi there Scotte

Do you speak fluent Spanish, the national language of Spain or did you think all Spain speaks English?

Spain has 40% youth unemployment.

Best of luck.

40% youth unemployment - that's a crazy high figure. I can see why so many EU youth work in the UK now especially in the hospitality sector where it's not as important to speak English perfectly.

To the OP you would have thought a qualified UK plumber and gas safe engineer in the Spanish costas would be in demand, not least as so many British or English speakers struggle with Spanish but if that's not the case it's a pity perhaps.

Have a look at this;

https://www.expatforum.com/expats/spain-expat-forum-expats-living-spain/889906-qualifications.html

There is high unemployment across all age ranges in Spain and no obvious changes on the horizon. It is expensive to employ people on the books here and going self-employed, although there is a tiered contribution over the first 2 or 3 years, you will be looking at about €300 per month regardless of income, then tax and other expenses.
After Brexit you will in all probability have to qualify for Residencia as a 3rd country national which has much higher financial requirements.

As others have said, Spain is awash with Brits in the building trades, qualified or not, and you are going to be dealing with Spanish suppliers and officialdom so a working knowledge of Spanish will be needed.
Mains gas is comparatively new to Torrevieja (2014 I think) and if someone just wants a gas hob it will be cheaper and easier to use bottled gas and fitting a gas heating system is hugely disruptive compared to hot/cold air conditioning which after all earns it's keep all year round.
All I can suggest is for you to google companies in the area and get in touch with them, you never know.

"you would have thought a qualified UK plumber and gas safe engineer in the Spanish costas would be in demand"

They might well be but only on the black because those qualifications count for nothing here.

To the OP, if you have not yet got the message loud and clear here it is again.

If full time legal employment as a plumber/gas engineer is core to the viability of you relocating to Spain then best you forget it because you have less than a snowball in hells chance of it happening.

Sorry but that really is the long and the short of it.
