My wife and I are looking for advice on the best towns/areas to live in Costa Blanca. I've listed a summary of our criteria below, and we'd appreciate any suggestions.

  • We want to be able to walk to bars, restaurants, shops, etc.
  • Short drive to at least one, and preferably multiple, golf courses.
  • We have a dog and two cats, so areas likely to have pet-friendly housing available for long-term rental.
  • Other expats in the area.
  • Not too crazy in summer. We're both in our 50s, so the party scene doesn't interest us.
  • Close to the beach would be nice, but less important than the above requirements.
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Hi prmspen and welcome to the forum! 😄

I'd recommend you look at La Finca in Algorfa.  A great range of properties, from 2 bedroom apartments to 4 bedroom detached houses, alongside a 5* resort hotel and championship golf course.  There's also a nice commercial area  with several restaurants (Baybrooks and Olivo's being our favourites) and a few shops, including a supermarket.  It's about a 5 minute drive to the Spanish village of Algorfa, with bank, hairdresser/beauty salon, more traditional bars around the village square, etc.  For a quieter life, rent a property that doesn't overlook one of the communal swimming pools.

My second suggestion would be the La Marquesa area of Ciudad Quesada in Rojales.  It also has a nice selection of restaurants in the commercial area around the golf course.

We live in Formentera del Segura, less than 10 minutes to the coastal town of Guardamar del Segura; from home, I can drive to Algorfa in 15 minutes and La Marquesa in less than 10 minutes.  Traffic is generally quite light and distances on maps can be covered more easily here than you might imagine.

There are golf courses in other areas, such as Villamartin in the Orihuela Costa and La Torre Golf in the Murcia region, but I don't know them well enough to comment.

Kind regards,

Kim

Villamartin, Las Ramblas, Campoamor and Las Colinas are the four courses in Orihuela Costa. It is very busy July and August, but that is not the main season for golf as too hot.

Other nearby courses are La Finca, (already suggested) which has properties within the grounds of the course but there is also a quiet urbanisation just outside the course called Montemar. Close to Algorfa.

Vista Bella is further inland, with Laguna Green and Entre Naranjos next to it.

La Marquesa is to one end of Quesada.

Further south in Murcia you have Mar Menor Golf,  Roda, La Torre and quite a few further inland.

Some courses have good amenities on site. Be careful of the community fees if you are buying within the course boundary, it is generally a lot more than for properties off course.

We are in Benimar area of Rojales and can walk to many bars and restaurants in Benijofar, Rojales and Quesada, 15 min drive to beaches at Guadamar and La Mata. I play golf with two societies at all of the courses already mentioned at reduced free fees and only 30 mins drive from Alicante airport.

Good luck.

Rob.

Thanks. We've looked at Villamartin, so it's good to hear it should be on the list.

I just looked at the map and there's a ton of courses down there. Definitely worth checking out.

Thanks. Sounds like it's right up our alley, so I'll check it out.
