Hi everyone

Honest opinions/views/ throughts please. Looking (on internet at mo) at properties in Carrefour Zone, La Siesta and La Chaparral areas. These areas appear to represent good value for money in the property market. Advantages/disadvantages of each area please. Whilst I appreciate everyones likes and dislikes are different I'm trying to gather as much information as possible before coming over to view. Any local information ie entertainment, shops, groups, Doctors, vets etc would be appreciated. Are these areas predominantly Spanish, English or a mix?  Happy to receive pms if more appropriate.

Thank you 🌝

Hello Christine, as you can probably see on Google maps, this is a very built up area and more land has been released for construction near El Chaparral which will probably fill in the open area between EC and the N332. It is a tourist and ex-pat area so you will find all the facilities you need close to hand and it is well served with buses. Ex pats from all of Northern Europe can be found here, some permanent residences, some holiday homes, so plenty of people have found it to their liking. If you tell the estate agent that you are only interested in properties with Habitacion Certificates you may save yourself a lot of hassle in the future and also ensure that all parts of the property are on the deeds to avoid illegal extensions.
If you are looking to live here full-time you will need heating from @ October through to March/April as Spanish properties are built to keep out the sun, not to keep warm in the winter. Also flash flooding is an issue between the CV905 and the pink lake when almost the entire year's rain falls in just a handful of days and streets become raging torrents.

Cheryl and Kim's posts are excellent. I just bought in the El Chaparral area, and was warned about flooding in the lower end of the area, so glad for that advice. I also noticed I can hear my neighbours thru the walls and may well invest in sound proofing, and I'm also replacing single glaze doors and windows as the house can be chilly, so you may have some add'l expenditure early on. Having said that, the area is nice, the parks nearby and Carrefour is a 5 min drive away. I would also add that the house costs are a fraction of home. Overall,I'm  very happy with my purchase.

Hi Christine, I have bought a little bungalow as a holiday home last year in La Siesta,  there good value for money if you get all the facts ( something I didn’t get) I wanted to rent mine out for a few holiday bookings, I had told the estate agent this was my intention. I had also read up on doing holiday renting, which I had done before successfully but not in Spain,  but there was one fact that I never come across till months after and that is the size of the rooms have to meet a very tight legal size and my shower room falls short of the legal size. I am very upset about this but there is very little I can do now. But the area is good and most things are in walking distance and there’s a good bus service. So if you want it just for yourself it’s fine, otherwise make sure it’s got a tourist licence in place if you do want to rent , good luck with your search.
