Hi there, any suggestions out there? I was thinking of moving to Torrevieja but seems it's for retired or young families and very little age groups in the middle! I'm single late 40's and looking for an area  in Spain with loads of expats for normal living...work,fun and the crack!!I'm Irish...

... please help as I'm almost sold up n nowhwere to go!!!

I am 56 and moved last October to El Galan and settled in really well. I am not a party animal but lit's around if you are.

This time of year things look good and busy but ensure you ask what it is like in winter. I live in a nearly all UK area where people live all year round.

Places where people have holiday homes can be quiet and lonely when all have gone back to UK.

Get on the site www.Meetup.com when you get here for socialising.

La Zenia is good ane then everything is just a short distance away. Playa Flamenca is lovely also but can be quiet. Happy to meet up with you when you arrive. Do not rush. I have a room and private bathroom you can rent in my home to test the areas. Be happy to help show you around and get you talking to people who have live here 15 years.

When we rush we could make a mistake. I find the houses and apartments over here noise.  The walls are thin so if that bothers you just see where the bedroom is situated etc.

I came over on and off for 2 years before I sold up and bought here. It was worth the wait. Did loose a deposit once as rushed so as I say take your time.

Let me know if you are interested in lodging with me for a while.

Hi Angie,

We are also in the same position as you. We sold previously before Christmas but unfortunately it all fell though with only a week to go so we should have been over there in February.

We have now sold again and are 4 weeks down the line.

We are also unsure which area we want to move to, we have spent time in Quesada and La Finca in the south but have heard the north Costa Blanca is beautiful.

We want to rent first but are worried about the timing of when we are going to arrive as it will be the height of the summer and will be more difficult to find somewhere to stay for longer than a few weeks.

My parents were also lrish, my mum from Roscommon, my dad from Limerick and my grandparents from Cork.

Would love to know how things go for you.

Best of luck

Maggie

Ps Malcolm my husband and l are both a very young 59.

Hi Maggie1,

Great to hear from you! Ok I've literally sold up while I was out in Spain too(I came back last night)so I'll be in the same position  with renting as things are definitely hotting up out there with people buying properties. But you made a good choice in coming onto the forum for advice as I've been helped by some lovely expats who are living out there and gone through the process...so keep throwing questions out there about different areas etc! We'll help each other and perhaps there's  others who have been in different areas who will share what they liked/disliked to give a better idea of what we're looking for.So when I get a chance later (still abit tired and I've to meet my daughter soon) I'll throw up a blog about what I felt about La Marina from my prospective and La Zenia to give you an idea of the areas. I've also by chance bumped into a friend of the family out there who moved there 9 months ago and have been back n forth for 12years so they'll give me a huge amount of help which I'll pass on!!

Have a look at Newstarts properties in La Marina while I'm out just to give yourself an idea with property types etc. I fell in love with two but unfortunately the area wasn't for me,might be perfect for you guys tho! Keep looking Maggie,The Place in the Sun exhibition is on in May in the UK so alot will be swiped up then....!! I'll talk again soon but don't panic as it might be a rash decision n costly! Talk soon Angie
