Hello Rhonda,

I live in Torrevieja, I'm on the outskirts close to playa acequion. It takes me just over 10 minutes to walk to the harbour. I know the area around the bus station is a bit of a concrete jungle but isn't that the same in any town. It does depend on what you are looking for Playa los locos also in Torrevieja is very nice and you can walk into the town quite easily the area of playa Naufragos is next to Playa acequion but still walkable into town and they have lots of inflatables and activities on the beach. They're is also La Mata a bit quiet for me in the winter but very popular in the summer. It's all down to personal preference I like Torrevieja it's much more Spanish, punta prima, Playa Flamenca  Villamartin etc have the nick name of little England and they are very British areas. So if you like Torrevieja and it is much more authentic, it has a lot of pluses for me, it's cheap for meals out, if your prepared to step a few streets back to the Spanish bars you can get a glass of wine and even tapas for €1. The funfair on the seafront in the summer has a great atmosphere with the market on every summer evening. With a choice of 4 beaches and the harbour with hidden restaurants right next to the boats in Marina International. Boat trips most days from the harbour. Parc national is lovely to take a picnic with the ducks, peacocks and paddle boats. The habanaras shopping centre is not too big, with C&A, Zara, Aki and more. The church square where all the festivals start from and the cathedral. Lots of concerts and live music. Most apartments have communal pools, I have an upstairs bungalow and we also have a communal pool. It does depend what your looking for, but if you want to know anything else just private message me.

Thanks

jim (and julie)

Hi Jim and Julie,

Please excuse me jumping onto this post!

We are middle aged couple from Yorkshire interested in buying in Torrevieja (holiday home but spending increasingly more time with a view to moving out permanently, 2/3 beds with a roof terrace and some storage for bikes).

We have travelled a lot all over the world so bit worried about getting bored but being realistic have kids in school in England and elderly parents and need to be pragmatic so ruled out longer haul places to buy plus we do really love Spain!  And could go to Granada Seville etc. Been to C del Sol hated it, like Denia Javea Altea but bit pricey!

Have only visited Torrevieja twice on day trips when on last minute booked holidays to Cabo Roig / La Zenia (rented nice townhouses but could not find a single spanish tapas bar and hated motorway) and really liked the Torrevieja marina area. And its obviously cheap being besieged by estate agents after one enquiry :-(

But have not been into town itself. Are there proper squares, tapas bars, menu del dias restaurants? Are locals anti English?

Our idea of hell would be to be in a little england ireland scotland etc, its not that we are snobs but  we speak a little Spanish and love the food culture etc. would love to get to know some locals without feeling like we were encroaching. But boys would like pool, 20-30 minute walk to harbour beach etc so its all a trade off! And we both run / cycle and don't want the horrendous motorway of Cabo Roig / Fueringola - should we rule out Torrevieja?!

If not please could you recommend a good area where we wouldnt need car in future walking distance (30 mins) to marina or beach?

Many thanks in advance,

Heather

No!

The only place you want to avoid my friend is Britain!!!

Come here and stay in any area for a few months and look a nd see the diference.

UK homeless people in doorwars everywhere, violence in news every day.

This is a paradise in comparison.  Its a dif way of life.  You have to see it to believe it!   2 Years in here!!! Changd my life forever.  Don't hold back.

You would be robbed or attacked in London much faster easier.  In Spain there are some pick pockets in big city but they are obvious to see.  They do not other me.  I look them in the eye and say I know what you are doing.  I am not the one! :D

Torrevieja is really tame or mellow.  Its very crime free and relaxed.  Friendly family and retirment atmosphere here.

Benidorm is a bit more hectic but not loads, its not madrid!!

I feel safer walking ANY Spanish street than I do an English one.  I travel all around T, spanish are ouyt at night even with their children playing in the parks.  Its not like UK.  Peopke here are familia!

We have a place at Pinar de Campoverde which we absolutely love and will be moving over permanently later this year....cannot come soon enough for us.  The whole area is great and agree with everything said above.  We personally chose Campoverde because it ticked all our boxes and just fell in love with it.  we wanted somewhere that had all amenities  but close to the "action" so we could access that when wanted to rather than be in it all the time.

All a matter of personal choice, but one thing for sure wherever you end up it will be your little place of heaven and will be the best choice we all make/made !!

And all the lovely people on this forum giving help and advice -----can't thank you enough - makes the move that much easier -----so thank you everyone :-)
