We are considering moving to Torrevieja from Ireland. Both my wife and I are disabled, I am registered blind but I can cope well my wife needs a rollater or scooter to get around. Is Torrevieja mainly on flat ground. Also the legal process to moving there. I have a contributary government pension and my wife qualifies also next year for the same.

Can we keep these pensions if we move permanently as we are EU citizens.

If you log into Gov.ie moving to Spain you'll get all the legal requirements to live in Spain as a EU residents.

Torrevieja city can be a big hard to get around on a mobility scooter as some bad footpaths and the park anywhere..

But a little out the city centre is fine like la Siesta and many more please.

Good luck if you decide to move.

If I were you I would consider looking down the coast after Mil Palmeras, it is very very flat down to Alcazares, giving you a lot of choice as it covers 20kms and a choice of places, all with plenty of English speaking populations.

Yes your pensions and benefits follow you to Spain. Perhaps it would be better to rent a place for a few months before making a commitment. You would need a property with either a lift or a ground floor apartment. A good bus route would probably be a good idea also. There are flat areas within the Torrevieja town centre and then there are steep hilly areas. The Town Council have made strides in the past couple of years to make beaches and promenades 2accessible to people with mobility issues and installing ramp access to public buildings.

Thanks Bèe for the reply. In your opinion where would you recommend we locate to. I am just going by what I see on TV.

As much as we would like somewhere quiet we would like to be near all amenities and shopping areas. With good public transport when needed. We are going to rent before we commit to buy.

It is hard to say where is best as we are all different in what we want. I have to be near the sea and able to look out on it.  In Torrevieja to suit you I would look at areas like La Mata village on the north of Torrevieja. It is flat and has a long walk by the sea from La Mata village right up to Cabo Cervera. There is a supermarket, a church in a large village square, a chemist, a couple of bakeries and a couple of paper/tabac shops. There is a frequent bus service in and out of Torrevieja.  There are lots of Restaurants and bars.  In Torrevieja centre there is the southern end with Mar Azul and La Veleta on the sea side  with Playa de Las Naufragos. Across from them on Avenida Arregui you have the Health Centre  and on the sea side Playa del Acequion. Then Plaza Constitucion which houses the Town Hall and the parish church. In the town is the Port Area and Paseo de Vista Alegre which has the Night Market and keeping by the sea Paseo Maritimo Juan Aparicio with Playa del Cura. Around the corner still heading north is Playa Los Locos. If you get a map and study the areas back from the beaches it will give you an idea of how central they are. Have you thought about Benidorm. Good and lively favoured by the English and the Spanish alike. Property would be dearer there.

Torrevieja has a frequent direct bus service to and from the Bus Station to Alicante Airport 365 days a year

The advice on renting first is a good option, but do not rely on the TV.

Go and spend two weeks a couple of time in the year to see for yourselves.

Once in full season, and once totally out of season, there is a lot of difference between the times of year, it is a big decision and costly if you get it wrong, made more so by disabilities.
