Keep an eye on the duration you want to stay in Spain, especially if brexit intervenes.

90 days and you have to become a resident in Spain, with or without brexit. Post brexit you have to apply after 30 days.

183 days and you have to pay tax in Spain.

Post brexit, you have to leave after 90 days if you aren't a resident because of the Schengen visa rules. You can't return until 180 days are up.

You will have to take out private medical insurance, especially if you have to apply for residency.

Ray's point about PHI does not apply if you are a pensioner as you have stated, obtain your S1 from DWP in Newcastle and you can register with the Spanish Health Service.

Thank you Ray, most helpful. So if I came out end of November so as to start my stay in December till the end of May, I wouldn't have to pay taxes in Spain?

In the meantime you could use your EHIC Card to get emergency treatment.

If you use an S1 to get healthcare in Spain you lose your NHS rights and would have to swap back again to get NHS treatment when you return to the UK.

I don't know if you would lose any healthcare rights by swapping twice.

How long does EHIC last for emergency services?
