Hi, If you don't want to drive then living IN Torrevieja may well be best for you. Near everything, shops, restaurants, beach etc However  it can be noisy in the evenings and very busy in the holiday periods.

Living NEAR to Torrevieja a car is in your comfort zone and you have access to many local places. San Luis, La Siesta and the Torrettas area can be really reasonable, and undisturbed. We live in the outer space and have been here for 18 years, and love it. Near the Salt Lakes, and shops as many as you need are available.

It depends on what you want as a quality of life.

Hope you decide soon.

May I ask, does it have to be Torrevieja?

About 20 minutes away (towards Alicante) there is Urbanisation La Marina. It has a large expat community, with all the bars, restaurants, doctors, dentists etc etc, in fact almost anything you need, and English is spoken in most places.

You could get a villa for about what you would pay for an apartment in Torrevieja, I would think. Barclays Properties, Smart Properties, or Newstart are the three most likely estate agents.

It might be worth considering?

As Geoff knows, I'm not a fan of built-up expat areas (I'm being polite here, Geoff!). With that in mind, I suggest you also consider looking inland a bit. Our nearest big town is Almoradi, which has some very nice and affordable apartments and town houses, all facilities are within walking distance, and there's plenty going on. Our friend who lives in an apartment in Almoradi seems to be going to a concert every week.

HI, I would certainly look at Pilar de la Horadada rather than Torrevieja itself. Pilar has everything that one would need, re shops, market and a glorious sea front. It is completely flat which makes it better for walking and generally getting around. It is not too far from Torrevieja, one can enjoy a day in there and then go home to a more peaceful part of Spain. I have lived in the Torre de la Horadada part for 17 years and I think it cannot be beaten as a place to retire to.

Hi there ive just bought an apartment in the Torrettas near the lakes, but like you i wasnt sure where i wanted initially. I got an agent from Girasol Homes and he showed me around the areas and a few apartments, even if you dont buy from them its a great way to get around and see some of the outer areas.I found them very good.  Once i found the area i went around it and took down any numbers for private sales too, you will cut out the costs for the seller which also means they can afford to sell cheaper. I have seen people selling properties on the buy and sell area on here, its worth taking a look

Good Luck
