From November 2023 British travellers Will have to pay for a European Travel Information and Authorisation System e-visa. It will cost £6.00, be valid for 3 years and must be purchased by anyone between 18 and 70. Under 18s and over 70 will be eligible for free passes. More information at etias.com

I hold a British passport, but am a resident (not citizen) here in Spain. Will I need one of these if I am travelling within the EU?

I may go back to the UK this year, so will I need one to get back into tye EU, even though I hold a TIE?

As a registered resident of Spain ETIAS does not apply to you. When entering Spain you must produce both your TIE alongside your passport. However, it is very important that both documents are valid.

Have been to the website-asks for your citizenship, no mention of residency. I presume as I am not a citizen of an EU country, I will need one.

It's only €6, so will apply anyway, just to be safe (like I have with the Clean Air Zone discs for my vehicles).

Thanks for making me aware of this.

It's the £ equivalent of €7 not €6.

It's also valid for 3 years or until the passport expires, whichever is sooner, and remember that's 10 years from date of issue.

This is the answer to your query and you can find further information by clicking on the link at the end:

Do I need ETIAS if I have a residence permit? No. ETIAS is a travel authorisation that covers nationals of visa-exempt countries coming to the EU for short-term stays. If you have a residence permit, residence card, or a document issued by any of the European countries requiring ETIAS which authorises your stay, you do not need an ETIAS travel authorisation.https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias/faqs-etias_en
