Hiya. Do you speak Spanish? I stand to be corrected, as advised  by my plumber friend, who moved here last year, you need to have Spanish plumbing qualifications as UK qualifications not recognised. Maybe someone who knows for definite  can confirm if this is correct or not.  Good luck with your move

Assuming that you obtain Spanish qualifications, you then need the services of a gestor to register as autonomo, ie self employed. You will be required to make payments to social services every month, regardless of income, but there is a reduction for the newly registered. You also have to make frequent tax returns, for which you also need a gestor, you can’t do it yourself. There is also the requirement to charge IVA ie VAT on everything, it’s not based on turnover as in UK.

You could do all of the above or you might do what the Spanish do - operate without any qualifications whatsoever: do not register as self employed.

Richard, that seems to be a fairly sweeping statement and not wholly correct. Of course there are always unlicensed cowboys, but this is not the general norm. And not particularly sensible to suggest that someone come here and starts working illegally, which is how I interpret your remarks, unless I misunderstand you?
