I'd recommend "Castillo Alingui" some 10 miles off Torrevieja next to San Miguel de Salinas. A beautiful scenery and good food + excellent service.

Most of the restaurants will already be fully booked especially as there seems to be a downturn in the number of restaurants offer a traditional Christmas Dinner on Dec 25th. Bars and restaurants although they are open over the Christmas period, will reduce their hours and probably close for an extra day or two between Christmas and Three Kings.

I wasn’t aware of the beach celebration at Playa Flamenca, but the famous one and by far the biggest is at La Zenia Beach, The access road is closed quite early in the day and it’s great fun watching people carrying their gas barbecues, tables, chairs, food,  drink and Christmas trees down on to the beach. A huge stage is erected for the brass bands and singers who perform during the day. A fabulous experience shared by people of all nationalities. It usually gets local TV coverage and there are lots of clips on YouTube if you search for Zenia Beach Christmas Day.

Of course the fairground and market is open  at Torrevieja over Christmas and there are a few ice rinks scattered around  the area. Each municipality has lots of activities and the detail in some of the Belens  is fabulous.  The big  local displays at Torrevieja and Rojales are usually very busy especially when they are illuminated at night time.
The Belen in Alicante is a must see as it holds two entries in the Guinness Book of Records and if you don’t want to drive there are coach trips available.

Hi Cathy

Which part of Torrevieja will you be staying in, and will you have a car? Taxis have been a bit of a problem around here this year.

Cheers

I use the Costa Azul app for Torrevieja bus services. I’m pretty sure buses run 365 days a year so you’ll be able to get around easily from the centre.
