I need a New gas boiler for my villa, to serve both hot water supply and radiator heating.

Large capacity.

Anybody know any reasonable Suppliers/Installers in the area?

We got ours from http://www.discountplumbing.es/. They can deliver but we collected it from just north of Benidorm. Can´t help with fitters as husband fitted it himself and got it signed off by Cepsa.

Why large capacity ? How many outlets, do you have a bath fitted and how many radiators.

Are you on natural gas or Butane ?

Natural gas, I believe. Large capacity is desired to Ensure that up to 8 People will take a shower, one after the other, as well as providing heat for several radiators.

Do you have a seperate  water cylinder or are you looking at a combi type boiler.

What you have there is a combi type boiler. The water is heated as it flows through the heat exchanger. The sizing of a combi depends on the number of outlets. 1 shower after another isnt a problem for any combi boiler as a shower is only around 6 ltrs per minute more than 1 shower running at once isn't normally possible without a store of water. Number of radiators x 1.5 average tells you the number of kw's needed for your heating system. If you have a bath fitted then sized to a bath tap at around 10 lts per minute. To be honest a 24 kw boiler is the smallest combi boiler and is usually around 9.5 ltrs iof water per minute. This would handle a never ending supply to a shower. If you have a bath fitted a 24kw will do but 28kw better. Anything larger doesn't serve any greater advantage really. If you want to run more than 1 shower at once 32kw will handle more water, but you will only get out the volume of water coming in. What you have looks like possibly a Biasi type boiler (not the best) and your pressure is a little too high unless its currently on.

By the way I am a heating engineer back in the UK. Im moving to Spain full time in March.

Hi swcoulthurst

Sounds like you may be just what my husband and I are looking for! We moved into a villa we did a lot of work on last year and the builder -loose term here in hindsight- suggested a combination boiler which is powered by butanol gas bottle. Went ahead with this and since then haven't been able to have a shower without it going boiling hot then freezing and can't use anything waterwise whilst the shower is on. So far no one has been able to suggest anything that helps so we have been looking for a qualified boiler person who could help before we take it out and revert to electric! Would this be something you could help with?

I can advise without a problem. However I'm not in Spain til mid March. Sound like you're not on mains gas as you have it working off Butano which is butane. You unfortunately will struggle to run any other taps whilst the shower is on. The unfortunate bit about electric is running your central heating. The electric heaters in Spain are generally water only. Ask me anything you want and I'll help as best I can. As I said I'm in Spain in March, not sure how urgent it is. I'm in El Campello but visit the torrevieja area as we have friends near San Miguel. My email address is [email protected] or [email protected]. All the best Stuart

Could it be anything to do with using butane instead of propane? Our boiler specifically stated it was for use with propane only. If the "builder" wasn´t brilliant, is it possible he didn´t read the manual?
