Have you considered trying to get your step-dad into a care home back in the UK near to family?

Perhaps you should contact Age in Spain for information and advice:

I know some people in Ciudad Patricia and its like a village with healthcare facilities etc at extra cost. I believe that the apartments have to be purchased initially for long term stays. I hear that it's very expensive to live there.

There is a nice care home in Alfaz:

There are several in Calpe:

La Saleta, I believe may also have specialised facilities for dementia patients. Fees were round about 2K a few years ago

La Colina, small mainly English speaking residents, some English speaking staff, fees around 2800

DomusV although this also has another name which I forget, not certain of fee structure but likely to be similar

There are others, they all have websites. There will be no state help, my mother’s house has had to be sold to pay her fees.
