Hi Ciaran,
It´s not that clear-cut. When we applied for residency (the green Certificate of Registration) while the UK was still a member of the EU, I ignored the gestor´s suggestion that we needed to show a large lump sum in our Spanish bank for a minimum of 3 months; instead, I just showed an audit trail of monthly payments from our UK bank to our Spanish bank with copies of statements from both. Although it only showed 3 monthly payments in Spain, the UK bank statements proved that it was regular income from a pension and rental income.
The authorities are trying to satisfy themselves that you won´t be a burden on the State, so anything you can show to prove financial stability, e.g. house ownership (without mortgage), pensions, savings and investments will be helpful in supporting your application. It´s also mandatory to provide proof of healthcare, either via private health insurance, or an S1 if you´re a pensioner.
Good luck!
Kind regards,
Kim
